Is it acceptable to use my TfL staff pass {issued a long time after 4/1996, sadly! :cry: } on a Southern train between New Cross Gate and West Croydon/Crystal Palace ?

No, not valid on Southern services.

No, similarly you can't use it on the WLL Southern services, only Lorol ones.
