Hello,

after your great help for planning my trip to the UK in April, I've one more question about haulage of some special services on the ECML.

As certainly known Hull Trains operates on some weekend services a loco hauled train with 86101 and Mk3-coaches. At the moment it's quite certain that I start my tour to the UK in the end of April and it would be interesting, if this unique train set is still in use at this time. I've heard a rumour that it should be replaced during spring by a former FGW class 180 DMU.

Thanks a lot in advance for any help. This could make some influence to my final plans.

Regards

At present, 86101 does still appear to be running, and it looks like it will stay like this for the forseeable future, as 180s need to be modified and crew training carried out. But don't hold me to that! :)

Time is ticking. The first 180 is at Crofton.

Don't forget that the 180s do not need to be modified at Crofton - there are plenty spare down at OOC or Oxley. All HT need is enough crew to be passed out to do the same diagram as the 86 and it's game over.

Indeed.

The one up currently isn't staying as its not had the mods, other ones will have the mods then move up.

Don't get me wrong I quite like the 180s, will miss them if they all go from the GW, lot more comfortable than the crap refurbished HST sets!

Rumour has it that 86101 is not out this weekend, and in fact may not return for Hull Trains now. Not sure how accurate this it though.

Hello all together!

First of all thank you for your replies and help.
So I think, it'll be a surprise, if 86101 is still in operation for Hull Trains when I'm in the UK. But what's life without surprises??? ;)

I've heard from german rail enthusiasts with knowledge about british trains, that 86101 will be handed back on short term without any further notice in advance. But it's only a rumour.

By the way - it's no rumour, that 86101 is not out this weekend. To verify this, check out the website of the owner of 86101 => AC Locomotive Group and click 'Main Line'. On this website there is also an information about hiring the 86101 by Hull Trains and it says, that it runs until approx. mid-April. So I thought, there is a chance to get it.

I hope it's not too impertinent, if I have one more question about formation about East Midlands Trains. Does anybody know, what formation southbound East Midlands Trains especially class 222 have? Is Standard class or First class heading southbound and does anybody know, where I can find a seating plan of class 222 in the www? I was looking around by using the well known search engines until my phone plug started to smoke, but there wasn't a remarkable success.

Once more thank you very much.

Best regards

East Midland Trains 222's and HSTs can differ. MML liked to run the services with the FC heading the trains towards the north. I don't know if EMT are keeping to that.

There seems to be a rumour that First Capital Connect [Great Northern] will take 86101+8 Mk3s+DVT on for Peak Services for 12months

There was such a plan but it has now been shelved (Modern Railways, April 2008 ). There won't be a GN capacity increase until December, which is when 2 317s currently doing peak TL Moorgate duties will return to the ECML for peak duties there.

Do we at FCCTL get anything back? Or should we have the extra 319s by then?

saw 86101 passing through peterborough whilst i was waiting for the train on friday eve then again stabled at doncaster yesterday whilst i was on a through service to sunderland. Looks great, i hope i get to travel on this set before it goes from service. I personally think once this set goes from service with Hull Trains, Grand Central should run a service between london and york using it.

Went to Kings Cross today at about 09:00 to see 86101. It never showed up!

I believe it should have already been there, and worked the 09:34 to Doncaster.

Nobody else around seemed to know what was going on either. :-?
