Trivia: Adjacent stations on same line with no direct services

I didn't know there was a train from Eaglescliffe to Stockton until now. Any body know why there are two on a Sunday?

I assume it must involve keeping Route Knowledge, franchise commitment or something similar or if you want to stretch the imagination, to provide a direct link to Teesside Airport

Route knowledge makes sense, especially as it apppears to me to be four different diagrams that take trains over that short bit of track. I wonder if it ever comes in useful.

Cheating a bit, but Briton Ferry to Llangennech when trains take the Swansea District Line onto the HoWL via Hendy Jn.

Similarly, Briton Ferry to Pontarddulais. Royal Welsh Show trains run this route every year, but are non-stop between Port Talbot and Pontarddulais.

It forms part of the diversionary route when engineering works take place between Northallerton and Newcastle, so is quite useful.

When I was a teenager (mid 70's)there was a regular service between Hartlepool and Darlington which a group of us would use between Billingham and Eaglescliffe/Allen's West.

I would think in this day and age there would be a demand for a service between Yarm and the Durham Coast line if it was timed right. Yarm is a relatively new station that does well considering it's limited service.

Tottenham Hale to Clapton. (Though there was until fairly recently one very early morning train that called at both - others will be able to advise if it still runs.)

You're sort of right – it's the last train of the night from Liverpool Street to Hertford that calls at both. Still running, as it has done for years. The early morning ‘oddity’ you're possibly thinking of is the Enfield Town via South Tottenham parliamentary which operates early on a Saturday morning.

Also a parliamentary for Eaglescliffe - Stockton, the remains of a more frequent service which IIRC dates back to the withdrawal of through London - Durham Coast services.

(I can sort of understand with Norton Bridge with not having any sort of access to the centre platforms, but why the bus for Wedgwood/Barlaston [not like that line is mega-busy, 3/4 trains an hour?)

Would St James Park (Exeter) to Pinhoe count?

Pinhoe only served by SWT services which run fast passed St James Park to Exeter Central?

Just wondering why have SWT never served St. James' Park? I know it has the Exmouths stopping there but then what if passengers want to travel towards Honiton (via Exeter Central or go from Pinhoe before anyone says it!)

Are trams and metros allowed?
If so then:
Hyde Park to Sheffield Station (S.Yorks Supertram).

No.

Blue route 0520, 0539, 0600, 0659, etc, from Cricket Inn Road M-F.
Purple route 0530, 0559, etc, from Cricket Inn Road M-F.

Saturdays and Sundays also available.

No service in the opposite direction however.
