Had a great day out today in the company of GRALISTAIR all day and LNW-GW JOINT for part of the day.

Will update Progressometer tomorrow.

It was great thank you. What is weird to me on the whole NW Scheme, is that no two consecutive masts seem to be the same (OK - Maybe a slight exaggeration) - or sure seems that way.

I am delighted that Richard Buckley has supplied eleven photos for publication, including some from the early site-clearance days in 2013.

I have set them out in an album "Richard's Photos" here:

and woven them into the collective NW Electrification 2013-15 album here:

Thank you Richard.

I am delighted that Paul Gaskell has submitted eight photos of the wiring between St Helens Station Junction and Ravenhead Works mentioned on Monday 29th.

I have major family commitments today (I've been summoned once...) so at this stage I've simply put them on Paul's Album here:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/127646831@N03/sets/72157649792560381/

I will add captions and add the pics to the mega album as circumstances allow.

Thank you Paul

This usually happens with iPhones, because intuitively when you use it in 'landscape' you'd probably hold it with the volume controls on the top. But Apple think that's upside down...

If not using an Apple device, then who knows... :D

Any bets on when the final portal goes up?

Not today!
On a pass through today, there is still one portal missing near Roby Jn - mast either side but no boom.
And still the boom-less mast at Huyton P1 east end.
The rogue mast south of Carr Mill is still lying in the cess.
They don't seem to have worked on Carr Mill viaduct over Christmas - the masts are still missing their booms.
No change at Victoria.

There is a wire up on the Up through Rainhill now, as well as the Down.
Having had another look at Wavertree, both lines are now fully wired.

There is far more steelwork left at Edge Hill than the few masts/portals to finish off on Phase 2.

The sharp radii seem an unavoidable limitation of the site, unless serious money was spent. And there presumably has to be a neutral section so that either the WCML or the L&M can be switched off without requiring each other to be switched off too.

That's as maybe for the Parkside end, but Golborne Junction proper is a 20mph-limited single lead onto the WCML where at a completely equal junction, the WCML would be the side-railway and the main line from Lowton Junction. There is space enough for works to reduce the extent of the 20mph max trackspeed by improving with Golborn junction proper. Unfortunately, the "triangle" of Parkside, Lowton and Newton-le-Willows junctions does not seem to have much room for improvement unless they go the whole hog and build a "slip"/chord that enables trains to access the northbound (down?) WCML without having to cross over the southbound (up?).

Looks like a bit of a surplus.

I shouldn't think anybody will spend serious money upgrading Golborne Jn until the plans for the HS2 junction with the WCML and proposed rolling stock depot are finalised (and possible route to Liverpool).
The single lead junction carries 2tph at the moment.
It needs to be 6tph or more to become as awkward as Norton Bridge.
I think improving the approach control would be of more immediate use.
The curve towards Parkside is not particularly sharp and could do better than 20mph.
But they carefully renewed all the junctions for 20mph recently.

Have they been taken down like the portal on the M6 viaduct were, or taken up like the tracks at Huyton was, or have the Down side of the portals been took down or the Up sides of one or more portals been taken up or the Down sides been taken up and put down again on the Up side?

I have a bit of a health and safety question here.

As I understand that the wiring in place between Wavertree to Earlestown is now apparently live, does there have to be signs 'Danger Overhead Live Wires ' in place near public footbridges?

There is a footbridge just a couple of minutes walk from my home and on the other side of the tracks, there is a primary school and many of the children there use the footbridge.

Just saying.

I doubt that.
How does the electricity get past Huyton with no wires?
The route through Olive Mount cutting as far as Roby Jn may well be live though.

Heard somewhere that the wiring sections in place were being turned on from 31st December.

Looks like I heard it wrong.

Anyway, when it is live, would there have to be signs?

Your confusing staff notices of line being classed as live with actually being live. There a difference.

Its fine, those outside the industry may not even know this. The idea is staff treat a line as , ive befire to get them into the correct habits before the danger is there I believe. Sensible approach.
