SW Trains unit in Norwich

Morning all,

Out of interest, would anyone know what a SWT unit was doing pulling into Norwich back in early Feb?

It was carrying passengers and looked like a normal service, yet I can find no info suggesting that National Express East Anglia have loaned stock from SWT.

Over the years, I've seen pictures of various modern units in unusual places often on Saturdays and always carrying pasengers. One that springs to mind was an EMU in the old Anglia Rail colours pictured at Basingstoke and the destination given as Colchester.

Special tours maybe? Looked in the section here and can't find details of any regular services like these.

The SWT unit you saw was probably one that was on loan to East Midlands Trains, both companies being part of Stagecoach.

The Anglia unit at Basingstoke would most likely have been a 170 DMU which was being used on an experimental cross London service from Basingstoke to somewhere on the Great Eastern Mainline. Photos can be found here and here

I knew one of the experts here would have the answer! Got to admit, I never thought about services from The East Mids at the time:roll:

Thanks for posting the pics with the details...it looks like the pics I saw were out of the same set but without the captions hence me not knowing what was going on. Maybe I should stick to boats instead:???:

I know the former One Railway are leasing in some extra stock now to cope with demand, but, so far all I've seen announced is some extra carriages and some class 47 locos which they said would be used on services from Norwich to Yarmouth and Lowestoft.

Cor, I miss those Anglian 170s that did GEML - Basing, it was some sort of pattern following Clapham Junction or North London line through South Acton, and onto the freight only line to New KEW JUNCTION, where it joined the Hounslow loop and it called at FELTHAM, STAINES, WOKING AND BASINGSTOKE THIS TRAIN IS FORMED OF 3 COACHES (rofl). It was a nice thrashy departure off staines.



Anyone know why they stopped it?.

Probably didn't attract the passenger numbers needed to make it worthwhile.

Just spotted a class error in my first post...Anglia Rail EMU at Basingstoke would have been interesting as they all use pantos only:roll:

Insufficient passenger numbers and the journey was slooooow.

Would probably have been something like "Platform 1 for the 09:24 Anglia Railways service to Ipswich. Calling at Farnborough, Woking, Staines, Feltham, Willesden Junction, Gospel Oak, Camden Road, Highbury & Islington, Stratford, Shenfield, Chelmsford, Witham, Colchester, Manningtree and Ipswich. Platform 1 for the 09:24 Anglia Railways service to Ipswich. This train is formed of 3 coaches."

Nah they used a class 170 DMU.

You mean Old Kew Junction - New Kew takes you from Acton towards Barnes.
