When the Simplibus branding was unvield in Grimsby on November 27th, booklets where given out showing all times during Christmas and New Year. The problem is that it claims New Years Eve are as a normal Wednesday but with some services stopping runs between 6-10. That is not quite true, instead the worse Saturday service is running until that time.

My brother is now angry to learn that he has to walk to Humberstone in the morning to get to work ontime. Should I complain and point out that they promised a service?

It's not worth the cost of the phone call as they won't reply in a useful way. Last time I emailed them about a major bus route change and got a reply from someone in Stockport who said ask us again in a week or so as we don't know yet. I did but have waited a month now.

But why is a Saturday service running today til New Years anyway??

Less demand in the rush hours as many businesses close or run reduced hours between Christmas and New Year - certainly on our "office park" we are the only ones in this week, all the others are closed until new year. (Which means that the sandwich bar has also shut so it's packed lunch week!)

My previous job was on an industrial estate which was pretty much the same between Christmas and New Year. The Plant Hire on one side and the Builders Merchants on the other were both closed and the large factory opposite was on Skeleton Staff. Our Company was 8-5 rather then 6-22 (Though the Service24h mechanic was paid handsomely for being on call outside those hours!) Could drive straight off in the evenings rather then queue for 20 mins waiting for a gap in the traffic coming out of the city. (that's one thing I don't miss now I walk to work!)

To be fair, in Grimsby, the Monday-Friday school holiday and the Saturday timetables are very similar.
The 1, 2, 20 and 25 run a normal weekday service (as noted in the guide).
The 3 and 4 run 15 minute frequency (instead of 10 minute frequency) in the daytime, evenings Mon-Sat are 30 minute frequency
The 5 is no difference.
The 6 just has a slightly different morning timetable on a Saturday morning.
The 7, 8, 9 and 10 have the odd early morning service which is Monday to Friday only.
The 12 operates an improved service on a Saturday, with an hourly all day service (no interworking with school contracts).
The 51, 53 and HumberFlyer have identical MF and Sat timetables.

Reduced weekday timetables are certainly the norm at this time of year. Their website suggests that a few services are operating normal Mon-Fri times, whilst the majority are running to the Saturday timetables.

It's the odd morning bus is the 8 that's the problem for my brother.
Also the guide is misleading.
The 2 doesn't run at all on Saturdays leaving Corp. Rd and Victor St unserved. And the night time 20s don't run either.
The 5 is different, it's just hard to tell since the new timetables forget about the old 45mic/Brigg/Halton/habrough/Ulceby runs that still exist.

The 2 and 20 are running normal Monday to Friday services during this period (as are the 1 and 25). The only exception being New Years Eve, when the last 20 in the evening (2110 Cleethorpes-Grimsby-Europarc-Wybers Wood and 2208 return) will not run.
I've got the Simplibus launch guide in front of me, and the only misleading bit is New Years Eve where it states that a normal Wednesday service operates!
For a more comprehensive 5 timetable you need the Humber Connections timetable, can't find the new one on the internet, so I've got a paper copy.
There is still a 0715 Barton-Immingham-Grimsby, and the 1715 and 1745 from Grimsby still serve South Killingholme, Habrough and Ulceby. These all run on Monday-Friday and Saturday. So, yes the only difference on the 5 is that Mon-Fri there are trips to Immingham MIC (0515, 0545, 0615, 0715, 1445, 1545 and 1645 from Grimsby) whereas these run to South Killingolme on a Saturday (except the 0515, 0545 and 0615 which terminate at Immingham County Hotel).

Thanks, I assumed that Saturday service was on 1&2 routes for some reason. You've got the same guide as me. The leaflet version is correct though. Happy New Year. Also the 1830 5 from Immingham will extend to Cleethorpes from January 5th.

I use the Humber Transport Blog for bus info and it says that no change to the Humber Flyer will likely happen til the 19th if that.
I am confused as to why roadworks on the rail bridge near Humberside airport are taking this many months to finish.

I think the issue with the railway bridge is possibly more severe than has been let on, and there is a decision that needs to be made to continue attempting to strengthen the bridge, or replace it.

The last rumour I heard (never believe those) is that a new bridge will have to be built.

Humber Transport suggests the Flyer is currently being run from Grimsby, with dead runs am/pm to start/finish the service in Hull. One imagines this is a situation that cannot continue - hence the registration to change, or discussions taking place to prevent any further disruption.

I understand Stagecoach's reason for planning to alter the route. But the airport will become impossible to get to and I think they know the concerns. A new hotel and a new search and rescue centre are being built there this year so it will need transport links more than ever, or at least since Concord last took off there.

Interesting rumour, I heard another one.
At the cement factory a tunnel exists under the rails.
This is for some industrial reason.
But I can't find the site I read it on. I'll look again tomorrow.

I think this is a picture of it. Would that be better than a new bridge?
Edit I just realised that's not the one I meant as it's in the wrong place.
But I'm almost certain a tunnel exists at the cement place.

The reroute away from Humberside would be temporary, whilst work on Singleton Birch road rail bridge continues. The route is already taking a long diversion around Croxton to avoid that bridge.

I've always been confused by the HF operation. It utilises (mainly) Hull vehicles, and I think Hull drivers, however most duties/vehicles used start their day in Grimsby

The Flyer uses vehicles maintained in Hull (so listed in the Hull fleet), but all Grimsby drivers at present. Normally one working starts/finishes in Hull, being driven by Hull staff, to prevent the dead running mentioned previously.

As you note, it's the long diversion via Croxton which is causing the issue.
