Hello folks,

Looking to have a little trip to Manchester (and back) on January 3rd, and i'm not wanting to commit to any specific trains.

It's just me travelling (1 child) and so far i've got it down to £31.05 by splitting at Darlington and Huddersfield.

Anyone got any ideas to get the price down a little more?

Thanks :)

If you've tried trainsplit.com and that doesn't have anything cheaper then there is unlikely to be anything cheaper.

Ticketysplit is nowhere near as advanced as Trainsplit and ibdoubt it ever will be.

Yeah, it was Trainsplit that I used. I was just wondering if there were any 'loophole' tickets or anything of the sort that i'd missed.

I still save £5 on the through fare, so it's all good. Thanks anyway :)

There was a loophole ticket but it has been removed owing to the deletion of sequences from the routeing guide. It used to be to Lancaster. I'mnot aware of any other loopholes but was this what you were thinking of?

Most likely so. Was just wondering if I was missing a trick but £31 on flexible tickets to do a 300 mile round trip isn't too bad I suppose :)

You could save some money if you use the WCML, for instance splitting at Carlisle and Preston brings the cost to £26.50. Carlisle-Preston costs the same as Carlisle-Euxton or Carlisle-Chorley, so you could save a bit more by splitting there instead. This is a bit slower than going through Yorkshire, though.

Thanks. I might consider this option when I have more time on my hands as this is a relatively short trip with me aiming to arrive in Manchester at 0930 and to depart at 1530 so i've just gone ahead and paid the £31.05.
