Greater Anglia DMU Sprinter at Derby Etches Park

Can anyone shed any light onto why there is a, what appears to be a 3 coach dmu in GA livery at Etches Park? Was dark and seen from a distance so couldn't get a good view to provide any more info. Any help in the below would be interesting.

What class is it?
What is its purpose at Etches?
Has it transferred?

I believe at least an additional unit is required come May for the extended Matlock - Newark services, if not more with any other improvements to Lincoln - Nottingham line.

If it's a three car Greater Anglia then it must be a 170, in the range 201-208.

I think it's almost certainly not a transfer as AGA is desperately short of DMUs so couldn't spare any. Many have been out of service with wheel flats and there was a report of 2 x 156s passing Ely earlier so I would imagine that it was these that you saw with one vehicle removed probably at Etches Park for tyre turning.

Don't they usually go for tyre turning ? Seen many GA 156s there in the past..

I'm led to believe the additional unit will be a 158 from SWT..

Class 170s are usually tyre turned at Ilford, there was one there earlier this week. The AGA 170s are next in line for a refurb though.

Hornsey & Etches Park do tyre turning for AGA at this time of year when Ilford struggles to cope.

It's 156407 and 156418 that are at Derby at the moment and as people have said for tyre turning

Thanks for the info. Had noticed this set today only so must be a seasonal thing as don't recall seeing one before.
