07.34 Uckfield to London Bridge (6 car) - 4 & 2 becomes 3 & 3 & 2 = 8
.

Incidentally that combination wont work until platforms are extended as the platforms are mainly 5 or 6 so the rear 2 will be off the back one way or the other.

Does anyone know if Govia/Thameslink plan to change the timetable at all on the Uckfield line. It bugs me that the last train to Uckfield (23:04) does not stop at Ashurst, yet it stops at Sanderstead and Upper Warlingham - and these stations (which I suppose are technically on the East Grinstead line) have another train just 20mins later out of Victoria.

Might be better suggesting it stops at Cowden as the semi fasts stop there in the morning

There is a 4 + 2 + 4 test train working to Uckfield this Sunday.

10+17 off of Norwood Jcn, 10+41 at Oxted and Uckfield from 11+59 to 12+05, back into Norwood at 14+00

This is E.C.S. not a passenger train !

The latest Modern Railways repeats the point that they will be reformed into 2 and 4 car units, as discussed earlier in the thread.

It would seem quite unlikely that the Uckfield line timetable will change. The Oxted line services (East Grinstead and Uckfield) seem to keep its existing paths in the proposed December 2015 off-peak timetable (and that will form the basis for the eventual 2018 timetable).

Given the December 2015 consultation currently underway, it would make sense to make your comment about stops in the last train to them at this opportunity.

Thank you for your comment. Its given me the incentive to see them an email about the Uckfield Line timetable between 17:00 and 19:00 from London Bridge!

Although it would slow the journey down further, I admit that traffic has picked up at Ashurst over the years.
I used to refer to it as Adlestrop.... No one comes, no one goes.
It's not quite so bad now, but the saving in not stopping at Hever, Cowden and Ashurst can be considerable.

noticing they have 3/4 mins at each station. I guess some measuring for platform length or something may be the reason.

How is having a standard fleet doing more harm than good?

Because our 171s are temperamental! When they tried to reform our ones a few years back they were not having it! Unnecessary meddling is not needed here. Get them out ASAP and free up some 2 cars.

There have been times when Sothern have been awarded an award for the most reliable modern diesel fleet that I have decided it doesnt say much for the rest of them!

Well I know my fellow passengers complain about them being unreliable but I have to say I very rarely ge delayed by a faulty unit. Its usually signalling that delays me, but even so I rarely am late enough to submit a delay repay.

I can list each units faults. They all have the same recurring ones.

802s dying a death at Hever last week, well it wasn't a surprise. Long term fault reoccurred again. Most reliable my backside!!

Cross feeding - lack therof?

I was originally told of the 2 + 4 car splits, with a big proviso of that's what is wanted "but" there are known issues which might get in the way. Others have commented that the 168 reforms all went swimmingly. We will see.....

They did go through a phase of slamming to a halt, and it used to get blamed on someone activating the alarm. As passengers we felt it was a fault as no reason to have such a sudden influx of passenger alarms.

they used to "run out" of air quickly when working under a lot of WSP during leafall season and would slam to a halt.

Believe so. Engine fault and lack of cross feed. A repeat failure.
805s transmission has been holding up well. Wonder how much longer?!

As for reforming them, obviously it might work. But previously when done with 2s & 4s they just said no!!

I can't recall the 171s ever having been reformed out of their as-delivered 2 and 4 car sets, what was the reason for the attempt you mention? Planned or unplanned for example if on the centre cars was out of action? They ever actually get to run in service reformed?

Well I expect the issue will need to be tackled one way or another, don't Chiltern want to reform their 170's, and other 170 might need to be reformed when they come off Scotrail Services.

Believe it was done as an experiment in Selhurst Depot.

I did mention this a few months back to Southern re: 23:04 not stopping at Ashurst, yet stopping at Sanderstead and Upper Warlingham, and the official line from Southern was that Upper Warlingham and Sanderstead stops do not affect the time the train reaches Uckfield, but the extra time it would take to stop at Ashurst would mean that the train would not arrive at Uckfield in time for overnight engineering works (I think I still have the letter from Southern at home somewhere!)

Have any 170s moved south yet? If so which ones? If not when are they moving?

None!

Dont think they are off lease until May and I believe Southern dont intent to have them in service until July. I guess they will be getting a repaint and interior alterations before they enter service.

Also rumours that the 4 units will be split into 2x 2 cars and 2x 4 cars.

Also a rumour that one of the units will travel south before then so Southern can assess the units.

They also need to change the couplers, and probably the unit numbers, to make them compatible with the rest of the Southern 171 fleet.
