spotting - what other spotting types are there?

Hi all,

As we all know, there are more than just trainspotting, but what odd ones are there out there?

Sptting types I know of are:
-Trainspotting
-Bus Spotting
-Plane Spotting
-Eddie Spotting (any other truck ones?)
-Car Spotting
-Taxi Spotting
-Sign Spotting

any more that adds to the list?

I once saw a man on a Motorway bridge with a camera taking a picture of a very tall Royal Mail lorry, so there must be other types of Lorry Spotter out there.

most people probably assume that it was a hobby confined to Arnold Rimmer from Red Dwarf, but there really is such a thing as telegraph pole spotting. I am ashamed to say that I know a spotter.

There's car spotting, walking through town the other day "Oh it's an RX8!" shouted somone I was walking with, "yes hun, it's a car! get over it!"

I'll admit I done car spotting lol, only for a change to see what it would be like, unfortunatly taking reg plates was boring and there are loads, you couldn't really see every car possible

In fact the vast majority of enthusiasts don't spot.

Car spotters do My head in, they take the **** out of train spotters(& the like) all day & then bang on about cars in a manner & depth that would make a train spotter jealous. Best thing is that what they are on about is out there in the millions where as I prefer trains with their limited numbers.

Oh & I have always been a paid train spotter, I don't do it for free.:grin:
As a.....
-Signalman= Looking for tail lamp in AB area's, i.e. spotting.
-Driver= Check passing trains for problems,wave at driver......Spotting again.

As I said, nothing against the spotters themselves, if you enjoy it good for you.

Perhaps we should move the conversation on to how many different sorts of rail enthusiasts there are?

If an interesting train goes past I'll take down it's number but not every single thing that passes through and I'll also take down numbers of the ones I've travelled on.

Hear, hear! the general public is so ignorant, but it is mostly because spotters are the most visible (coverage-freaks like me tend to look a bit more like normal people). I can't see myself enjoying spotting, TBH. It requires too much patience that I don't have!
