Above from the Carlisle News and Star. Good news for those of us who use Carlisle and like a pint of real ale!
Carlisle News and Star said:Nigel Tarn, owner of the Moo Bar on Devonshire Street, is planning to open a cafe and bar, called The Waiting Room, at the city’s railway station.
He has made the plans with the Settle Brewing Company and a licensing application is now with the city council.
Mr Tarn, whose original Moo Bar opened on King Street in Penrith two years ago, said the new venue would offer a selection of cask ales and local food, with a focus on showing off the best of Cumbria.
He added: “Carlisle railway station has annual passengers of just over three million, of which 2.7m are waiting for or changing trains without leaving the station. We intend to showcase to these people the best the county has to offer.
“The county of Cumbria has so much to offer in terms of food and drink so it’s a real opportunity for us to utilise this site to cater for these customers with the best of Cumbrian food and drink.”
The venue would be located in part of the station which has previously served as a store room and an office.
Mr Tarn said it would make use of original architectural features, including vaulted ceilings and fireplaces.
The licence would allow live music to be performed in the bar and cafe from 5pm until 10.30pm.
It would be open from 7am until 11pm with the bar closing 30 minutes before the last train leaves the stations.
A screen showing departure times would be installed.
According to the application, the bar would open in late January. It can be seen online via www.carlisle.gov.uk
