The roof of a doubledecker bus was sliced clean off after the vehicle was driven into a railway bridge in Birkenhead.

The Stagecoach bus, a rail replacement service, caused trains in the area to be suspended after the crash, which took place on St Paul’s Road, on the Wirral, at about midday on Saturday. There were no passengers on the bus at the time and no one was injured.

Are incidents involving rail-replacement bus services a rarity?

Apparently not. A combination of buses off their normal route, increased likelihood of proximity to railways (obviously) and last minute on-the-fly route planning means that the probability of bridge strikes is higher than average

The RRB is for one station, Hamilton Square. It's underground and closed for a major refurbishment. The rest of the line was running.
Corrected that for you:D
