Trainsplit, itineraries and unwanted seat reservations

I have booked and received off-peak return tickets for this Thursday on Trainsplit. I wanted seat reservations on the return trip, from Melton Mowbray to Nuneaton, but I was unable to book the itinerary I wanted for the outward trip, so I therefore have seat reservations on the outward trip that I will not use.

I realise I am free to use any service, but is it worth trying to cancel reservations and possibly book new ones?

I'm puzzled as to why trainsplit (and indeed other booking sites, such as thetrainline booking engines) offer so few itineraries for Fenny Stratford to Melton Mowbray?

And I am now also assuming that trainsplit can only offer splits on routes which would be permitted for through journeys, which isn't necessarily the best, as split ticket journeys only need to take permitted routes for each ticket.

When the new routeing engine (which is being created by a forum member) is complete, that will no longer be an issue.

That's good.

Any idea why some booking engines refuse to show the regular journies- with Bletchley, Milton Keynes and Nuneaton changes or Bedford and Leicester changes? The only itineraries offered are via Northampton, on a Virgin service, or via Corby. Weird behaviour.

I have had a similar issue whereby Trainsplit's engine states it cannot find any fares from Birmingham Stations to stations along the 'Figure of 6' from Salisbury to Romsey and Southampton Central. Oddly enough, Mottisfont & Dunbridge isn't affected.

Yeah. It's a right pain that we can currently offer fares only on routes that are permitted, and it causes some journeys to fail completely because the fastest journeys are on routes that are not permitted.

I cannot understand why the industry would think that passengers want the "shortest" route and not the "fastest" one, but that's the situation we have at the moment.

As yorkie says, work is underway to allow us to display any journey on any route, splitting tickets as necessary.
