Hi

Looking at booking tickets Manchester - London on 21st Feb, returning same day. Go around 9 and return around 7.

However, all the journeys are showing a change at Milton Keynes. Is that engineering work or because the journey is too far away?

The WCML is closed at Watford for a number of long weekends up to April, and one of these is 21-23 February.
Despite being long planned, it doesn't appear in the printed timetables.
I'm not sure if VT are operating trains via the Chiltern route from Coventry to Euston on the Saturday, otherwise you will need to find another route.
Going via Leeds would probably be fastest from Manchester.

I went via Leeds in August. Bagged a HST too!

Thanks everyone.

There don't seem to be any advance fairs available, not sure if this is due to the disruption or just too far in advance.

I did check on Virgin site before asking on here, there didn't seem to be any confirmed engineering works.

Me and my brother were going to a beer festival, so could really do without a change of trains on the way home!

Probably best splitting somewhere like huddersfield with advances and going via Leeds. You EC train will almost certainly terminate at Leeds and you will be woken up. Alternatively you could do Doncaster that side of the Penines.

There are no Advances from Manchester to Huddersfield. Through Advances are however available on EMT & Connections. Otherwise get an East Coast advance to Doncaster and a TPE one from there to Manchester, ensuring you observe the minimum connection time.
