I assume that the Super Voyagers on Birmingham-Glasgow/Edinburgh's will also be effected tomorrow, if the speed restriction is for all VWC/LM services north of Rugby, although there isn't currently any Super Voyager workings shown as cancelled above.

Edit: Note that the NRES website hasn't been updated with the above information at all as yet.

Was certainly the plan earlier this evening. Additionally, London Midland services between Crewe and Liverpool Lime Street will be replaced by buses until at least 12:00.

Might just be for electric traction? I know some restrictions yesterday were just for electric traction.

Understandable cancelling half the trains when the service is normally half-hourly, but it seems unfair to cancel the 09:38 as there is no alternative service for the people of Tamworth, Lichfield and Wilmslow.

There is no restriction AIUI on diesel traffic, if it can get passed the electric traction, but if not, then it is forced to do the lower speed due to slower traffic in front of it....

50mph restriction is to give drivers a fighting chance of slowing down before hitting any obstructions which end up on the line such as trees. For some reason they have got much more strict about this of late.

There's plenty of HSTs into the Cross for the morning peak, hopefully they'll shove the 91s on to the slow lines, as there are plenty of opportunities to overtake, e.g. Northallerton-York, York-Colton Jn (of limited use admittedly), Doncaster-Loversall Carr Jn, various loops, Stoke summit-Peterborough, Huntingdon-London.

York-London at 50mph max would take nearly 4 hours! :|

The 08:22 GC service will get to overtake the 07:35, 08:00 and 08:10 if this happens!! Could be good for Sir Clag and co ;)

As I said, it's a blanket restriction for all trains for reasons outlined. MML is also the same tomorrow.

Due to emergency speed restrictions being imposed the plan for Grand Central services is as follows:

06:46 Sunderland to London Kings Cross service will be terminated at Peterborough. Passengers are advised to travel forward on First Capital Connect services.

12:30 Sunderland to London Kings Cross service will be started from York at the booked time of 14:10.

08:04 London Kings Cross to Sunderland service will be terminated at York at 12:45. Passengers are advised to travel forward on either Northern or First Transpennine Express services.

11:27 London Kings Cross to Sunderland service will be started at Peterborough.

Indeed, it doesn't matter whether you're on electric or diesel traction, it is still dangerous to run at high speed in such poor weather conditions. Of course electric trains do have the OHLE to worry about in addition.

I had a sedate trip into uni today at 50mph this morning into Birmingham but the speed restriction appears to have been lifted this afternoon coming home

Suprised nobody mentioned this:

National Rail said:
Overhead wire problems between Doncaster and York

Last Updated: 17:52
Route Affected: London Kings Cross, Peterborough, Doncaster, Hull / York & Newcastle; Derby, Sheffield, Doncaster, York & Newcastle
TOC/s Affected: CrossCountry, Grand Central, Hull Trains, National Express East Coast, Northern Rail
Description: Services between Doncaster and York are being disrupted due to overhead wire problems.

At present, the service between Doncaster and York has been suspended.

CrossCountry Trains services between Sheffield and York via Doncaster will be diverted and not call at Doncaster.

Passengers may travel between Leeds and York on Transpennine Express services and between Doncaster and Leeds on Northern Trains services.

Passengers travelling between London and Scotland may use Virgin Trains services from London Euston.

National Express East Coast currently advise passengers not to travel.

This disruption is expected to last for at least the rest of today’s service.

Hull Trains said:
12th March
Service Alterations - Wednesday 12th March
Due to overhead line damage between Doncaster and Selby Hull Trains services will be routed via Goole for the remainder of the day and some delays may occur. No stops will be made at Selby or Howden. Alternative transport will be made available to/from Selby and Howden. Passengers are advised to report to departure stations at normal times.
Updated 17.45 - Wednesday 12th March

I realise today's gales have been pretty severe, but these incidences of overhead wires coming down seems to be becoming ever more frequent...

I was just about to! I was just asked to figure out times to Hull for someone and had to tell them they had no chance of getting there in good time.

Is there likely to be any problems along the WCML tomorrow?

Yeah, the last southbound Hull Trains service will be departing Hull in a few minutes.

If your friend wants to do the line via Goole on Hull Trains, they can do this weekend, see here. Sadly, NXEC are taking the easy way out and pathetically running a bus :(

Sorry, didn't mean to sound sour at all.

Just saying that they're not interested in any random lines that take all day but get mental hellfire coverage :p

With the York ECR strike proposed next Wednesday-Monday, things could be fun - 10/18 staff are definitely striking, and they control the juice for ECML London-Scottish Border, bits of FCC TL to Bedford and West Yorks Electrics.

NX were having to Divert via Leeds over Easter weekend anyway, but we could see lots of cl67 hauling cl91??????? Or WCML staff sent to ECML since Rugby and other places are closed.......(gives NR a handy excuse if the OHLE over-runs again). With ECML and WCML disrupted, EMT up the MML could see a major boost in traffic!
