I'm on a train right now (surprise surprise) so will respond fully later. Briefly have you checked out seat61? Through European tickets (where they still exist) can be prohibitively expensive - splitting will no doubt save your friend some money.

You don't say when your friend would be travelling (nor what counts as silly prices) - I did a very quick look for middle of next week (3 Dec)

From www.renfe.es
Cordoba->Barcelona (AVE) 0944/1425
Price:E69.05

From www.voyages-sncf.fr (fr)
Barcelona->Perpignan 1825/1947
Price:E29.00

Perpignan->London (Intercites de Nuit+Eurostar) 2104/1039 next day.
Price:E138.00

Total E236.05

The above was just a random guess - not a suggestion - there are probably (much) cheaper ways to do it.

As has been mentioned - seat61 is a good place to start

For early December: AVE to Malaga Airport (€41), Ryanair to Stansted (€55).
Buy in advance from RENFE and print at home.
The fare via Madrid is similar but it's a longer journey and more of a faff to get to the airport.
It's dead easy at Malaga (you should get a free local ticket with the AVE fare).

Do they still do the Andalucia internal cheaper fare from Cordoba to Malaga on the slightly slower (but still uses AVE line) train that from memory stopped also at Antequera?

Yes, there's the odd Avant taking 65m at €27 (roughly every 3 hours, 2 stops), as well as AVE at 48m and €41 (roughly hourly, non-stop).
If you book far enough in advance you can get an AVE for €12.
The Avants are on the Sevilla-Cordoba-Malaga route.

Yes, thats correct !

Also you get discount if you are flying for Malaga / Seville just you need to show your boarding cards when purchasing.

Cheers
