Taking a look through the various TOC websites and JourneyCheck pages and noticed that it looks like there could be some trouble throughout much of Southern England overnight tonight and throughout tomorrow.

CrossCountry
Network Rail have imposed speed restrictions on all lines South of Basingstoke (so to/from Southampton Central and Bournemouth).

First Capital Connect
Network Rail have imposed speed restrictions on some parts of the Bedford to Brighton route, and as a result a reduced service will operate. Services to/from Moorgate, Sutton and Wimbledon may also be subject to some delays, so passengers are advised not to travel if possible. Passengers who do need to travel should allow an extra 20 to 30 minutes.

First Great Western
Passengers travelling on routes across the First Great Western network should expect some disruption as a result of the adverse weather that has been forecast. It is expected that this will particularly affect services between Reading and Basingstoke, between Reading and Gatwick Airport, and services South of Warminster (so to/from Southampton Central and Portsmouth Harbour).

London Midland
Network Rail have imposed speed restrictions South of Northampton (so to/from London Euston).

Southeastern
Passengers travelling on routes across the Southeastern network should expect some disruption as a result of the adverse weather that has been forecast. Additionally, Network Rail have imposed speed restrictions on all lines South of Tonbridge (so to/from Ashford International and Hastings), and beyond Gillingham (so to/from Faversham, Ramsgate, Canterbury East and Dover).

Southern
Passengers travelling on routes across the Southern network should expect some disruption as a result of the adverse weather that has been forecast. Additionally, Network Rail have imposed speed restrictions South of Gatwick Airport (so to/from Brighton, Lewes, Horsham, Littlehampton and Worthing via Preston Park/Hove).

South West Trains
Network Rail have imposed speed restrictions on all lines South and West of Basingstoke (so to/from Southampton, Bournemouth, Weymouth, Pompey via Eastleigh, and WofE services to/from Salisbury, Exeter and Bristol). This is also the case for services running South of Guildford (so to/from Haslemere and Portsmouth).

Virgin Trains
Network Rail have imposed speed restrictions on the West Coast Mainline between Stafford and London Euston, and as a result there are likely to be short-notice alterations and some cancellations to services.

What?! The speed restrictions should be in place if/when it actually happens, not just on a prediction.

We had worse winds than this on the HBS line without any speed restrictions, bad enough that it was shifting the train side to side and blowing windows and doors open on a 156...

Indeed, it seems strange to put in TSRs if there is just *expected* bad weather... oh well, yay, 1000 off KGX to EDB. Lucky me.

Don't know where you got your info from, but the line hasn't been closed, & there are no reports of it being closed. Drivers are currently on a 50mph restriction until further notice. Wouldn't surprise me if they implement single line working sooner or later. Train services between Looe & Liskeard are currently suspended. Batten down the hatches, it's gonna be a rough ride!!

Well, the line isn't closed. Obviously they got wrong info there as usual. Trains are still running, just being disrupted & delayed, I should know as they're going past my house! lol

P.s. Just looked on News 24, yes there's a ticker saying the line is closed, but read above. I'm not saying they will close the line (which is very unlikely unless it gets REALLY REALLY REALLY bad, don't forget, it's the only rail route in the SW!), but I'm seeing trains go past here.

They said once that all lines in the NE of england where shut, funny that as I was reading it on my PDA on the way home and they said the train I was riding on shouldn't be running.

But for there, there's only 2 ways to get in or out of there, bus or train, they never let both be cut off, unless it's realy realy bad!

Major disruption to me is where pepole are stuck at a station or airport with no way to get home from their daliy commute, not where they are being held up by 20 mins!

The TSRs on the Southern are most likely due to embankment stabilisation issues. There is one near my house where they have been working on it for months. Plus the lines between the M25 bridges and Coulsdon are quite steep too and do suffer landslip issues.

Hmm, I wonder who supplies them with information...?
God knows - it certainly was not their online and radio travel information provider or NRCC at any time this morning, and FGW never sent any messages through to certain media outlets. Therefore I can only assume the BBC's news department either went with something they had misread/dreamt up, rather than what their travel/radio departments had actually been told by their provider (who liaise closely with National Rail and the TOCs themselves).

they're probably supplied information from local residents who are moaners and dont like trains, WISHING the line was shut. Well guess what, trains are here to stay <D

Heh, I always laugh when the BBC or somone says, Our traffic monitoring cente (infering the BBC's) when the're at the NTCC or one of the RTCCs, they don't get let in them any more, Serco stoped lettin em in ;)

btw. It's the NTCC that feeds the AA and RAC etc traffic checker things, they own all the road loops so I think they'd know whats a happenin ;)

Everybody should go to Dawlish today. There's few more wonderful sights on the UK rail network than a journey along the Dawlish coast in wind and rain.

Reports of the Lymington line being closed are floating about on the Journey Tracker website

It's been closed for some time due to power supply problems around Brockenhurst. I think the initial suspension was at around 13:30/13:40ish, with the buses commencing around an hour or so later.

They might have got it from the NRE website
Virgin Trains services suspended between Exeter and Plymouth

TOC affected: Virgin Trains
Virgin Trains’ services between Exeter and Plymouth are currently
suspended due to poor weather conditions.

Can you spot the error? ;)

That rather strange message from NRCC that you quoted, and confirmation from XC came somewhat later than the Breakfast News ;) GW continued to operate, accepting XC's pax. As far as I know, a couple of Voyagers got bullied by the sea, and with the high tide due afterwards they decided not to risk running their units along the seawall and instead to turn back at EXD.
