Truro Turnaround Operations

Just noticed that engineering works mean that services are being started/terminating at Truro for the next few days. Bus services to and from Penzance. I was wondering about how the trains would be turned around at Truro? What would happen to the servicing of the trains/coaches, stabling/refueling during daytime and overnight and so on. I notice that the Night Riveria is starting/terminating at Plymouth.

No servicing of daytime turn round trains at Truro. I am not sure if there are cleaners there. FGW trains east of the blockade are being serviced, watered and cleaned at Par overnight whilst XC services are being done at Laira. No trains east of Truro are being refuelled other than at usual depots such as Laira, Exeter etc.

There is a crossover at the East end of Truro station I believe.

Thanks for the replies. It's a bit difficult keeping up to date with what is happening back home all the time from this distance.
I do tend to forget about the facilities at Par. Usually when returning home I am focused on getting to Truro or further west, or just being woken up by the stewards on the Night Riviera so I don't notice it.
What work is happening west of Truro?
Yes there is a crossover just after the road crossing and the signal box.

From my observations at Truro over the weekend:-

Saturday trains were arriving on the down platform and shunting to the up platform after drawing out of the west end of the station. Sunday trains were arriving in the down platform and departing back from the down platform.

Truro to St Erth

The timber structures within Hayle Viaduct have deteriorated over the past few years. Network Rail will be carrying out the essential works to repair the viaduct, repair bridges along the route and renew the track in the area during three weeks in November.

The railway line between Truro and St Erth will be closed to allow these important works to take place. Once complete, they will improve the resilience and reliability of the railway in the area.

The Cornwall rail society have been providing a daily blog and photographs of the work. I believe the reason services are turning at Truro and not Camborne or Redruth relates to shunting and wrong line working.

Also ease of access for rail replacement coaches. It is more practical to park them at Truro Railway station and Penzance Bus station than at Camborne & Redruth railway stations. Facilities at Truro & Penzance are better to deal with rail replacement services as well. There were / are other work sites at St Erth and elsewhere.

In the 1970s there was a short lived through train from Falmouth to Paddington which had to use the down platform, and as far as I am aware the signalling hasn't been changed since.

Any idea why it had to use the down platform? You can get to the up platform from the Falmouth branch.

Whilst on the subject of Truro, when I was there some 14-16 months back, there was some work going on, possibly in preparation for a rail freight operation concerning supermarket goods traffic? Any further developments?
