XC Voyager passing CSA: 23/11

Essentially, next week, during engineering works aroung Bournemouth, Crosscountry services will be going down the Portsmouth Direct then onto the West Coastway for Southampton Central.

I'd quite like a few snaps of this going through Cosham.

The service departs GLD at 13:17 and arrives at SOU at 14:43.

Can anyone tell me roughly when the service will be passing through? I don't know enough about the speed restrictions and stopping times of the pther services on the line.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

These will be running every Sunday until the timetable change next month and have been running since the end of October.

For interest next weekend the XC services are actually going your way (via Guildford and Havant) because of the works block at Reading West. There are no engineering works at Bournemouth that would affect XC - the service is Man Picc to Bournemouth as normal, but only runs two hourly because of the extended journey time the long way round.

There is engineering work on the normal main line route between Basingstoke and Winchester, but if that was the only work site XC would usually go via Laverstock (Salisbury).

Where are these trains going after leaving Oxford southbound.? (Is that Up or Down?) I can't see a route to Southampton on the national network map. It's probably glaringly obvious but I am having a senior moment.

Oxford > Didcot > Reading (through P14/15 and then Southern underpass) > Wokingham > Guildford > Havant > Fareham etc etc...

Basically they use the FGW North Downs route between Reading and Guildford, then go round the coast

Used the underpass a couple weeks ago when I did it. Comes back via the 'new' junction. Quite slow after Fareham as I think it gets caught behind the all station stopper.

The eastern 'Southern' underpass has been used by the single daily XC service towards Guildford since the new platforms on the relief side of the station opened. (Easter 2013)

There have also been standard weekday ECS moves since the same time, there's one in the morning (5V82) that runs from Eastleigh to Reading via Basingstoke, runs through P7 or P8 onto the Southern and then reverses, coming back through the underpass to reach its eventual departure platform.

That's from a basher's view, having to do this again because it is completely new track and I organise my coverage by TOC, unlike others, XC ones are amongst those I have not done, and they are a bit awkward to do.

Ah, I see now. I reckon the normal civilised time to do the underpass with XC is the weekday Newcastle to Guildford, which now passes Reading at a civilised time in the early evening, 1808-1821

Hope you don't have to do it both ways though, the down direction wouldn't come round too often as they generally run through the main side as they always did.

As an aside, does that mean you also need to do XC all the way round from Guildford to Southampton as well?
