Clarification: First GM and WY fares

Hi folks, looking for some advice on this one for a planned journey this Sunday from Manchester to Leeds.

The trains are all ridiculously pricey that day for some strange reason, so I was looking at using the 184 (First GM Operated?) for Manchester to Huddersfield at 1418 and then the X6 on to Leeds. Can I ask, is there still an agreement in place that a First West Yorkshire Day ticket (£4.20?) is valid on the 184 throughout?

If not, does anyone have any ideas on the price of a Manchester - Marsden or Manchester - Todmorden bus single, and from those places I don't mind paying the train fare.

Have you looked at using National Express or Megabus between Manchester & Leeds?

I have looked at NX. Cheapest tickets appear to be £4, which, if you add the booking fee, does not come out all that much better!

Wouldn't know where to start with Megabus.

According to the First website, either a FirstDay West Yorkshire or a FirstDay Greater Manchester are valid on the entirety of the 184 route.

Whether you can buy a West Yorkshire ticket on the bus in Manchester or not I don't know.

Whether you can buy a West Yorkshire ticket on the bus in Manchester or not I don't know.

There should be no technical reason why the ticket can not be issued as the bus will need to be able to issue it when it's in West Yorkshire but I don't know what First's policy is.

I had expected to be able to find out a few weeks ago but the 184 missed out part of its Sunday route and I ended up walking from Diggle into West Yorkshire as I had 2 hours before the next bus.

Bear in mind the X6 doesn't run on Sundays from Huddersfield, if you wish to only use First you will need to use the 363 to Bradford and then the 72 or X6 to Leeds.

... or the 231 / 232 to Wakefield (Sunday journeys are operated by First) and a train to Leeds.

I've done the journey on a weekday from Oldham to Wetherby & back fairly recently & was able to obtain a First Day for West Yorkshire on the first bus from Oldham with no problem whatsoever.

Current cost is £4.60 which is a bargain (albeit a slow option).
