not permitted on hs1 route

Im very confused we need to buy supersaver return tickets to london bridge and on another day to waterloo east from sittingbourne which are £17.50 if after ten

Our problem is the ticket says not permited on high speed 1 , how do i know in advance which trains are high speed, i phoned the help line and they said we are allowed to use high speed on part of our journey because it is permited then also said we can not use high speed, very confusing .
We know we will retun the same day but not sure what time so cant phone the help line every time to see if we are allowed on a train and which high speed train we can use.

This has muddled us up how much is a ticket to use high speed
The only trains from sittingbourne to where we want to go seem to be high speed. How do we compleat our journey with worrying we have got on the wrong train.

Sittingbourne has half-hourly direct services to both St. Pancras and Victoria. Direct trains to the latter are fine using a non-HS1 ticket and are only 5-10 minutes slower than the HS1 services to St Pancras in any case.

The High Speed services are those which run to/from London St Pancras via Stratford International - i.e. via the High Speed 1 line.

If you are departing from and returning to Waterloo East or London Bridge, following routes set by the National Rail journey planner, you will not be joining a High Speed (Javelin) service.

HS1 is the railway line between Gravesend and St Pancras via Ebbsfleet International. See the Southeastern network map.

There are High Speed services which run from Faversham to St Pancras. Your ticket is valid on these services between Sittingbourne and Gravesend, where you will have to change for services to London via Dartford. This gives you the option of travelling into London Bridge, Waterloo East, Charing Cross or Canon Street.

Your ticket is also valid on the service between Sittingbourne and Victoria.

You can only go to London Victoria is the basic answer. If you had a ticket to gravesend you could use a javelin train as it won't be high speed until it leaves ebbsfleet.

To travel between Sittingbourne and London Bridge, it is usually necessary to use the High Speed service and change at Gravesend. This is valid on a Not Valid on HS1 ticket.

You can only go to London Victoria is the basic answer. If you had a ticket to gravesend you could use a javelin train as it won't be high speed until it leaves ebbsfleet.

With a Super Off Peak ticket from Sittingboure to London Terminals, there is also the option of going travelling to London Bridge/Waterloo East/Charing Cross or Canon Street with one change at Gravesend.

Wouldn't it make things a lot easier and more understandable if they just routed these tickets NOT STRATFORD? That's essentially what it means. That or NOT ST PANCRAS.

I think you'd need to be more explicit and go for 'NOT STRATFORD INTL', otherwise everything would be valid

As others have said, it's a route restriction which prohibits the use of the high speed line via Ebbsfleet & Stratford International without a small supplement (about £3 each way) being charged.

As you wish to travel to London Bridge/Waterloo East, you won't have to worry about being asked to pay the HS1 supplement.

I think there is still some confusion among occasional rail travellers in North Kent about the Not Valid on HS1 restriction.

I have occasionally advised people travelling from Rainham or Gillingham to Charing Cross via London Bridge that they can use HS1 to Gravesend and change there if they wish - although it does not lead to an earlier arrival in London 99% of the time

HS1 doesn't commence until Ebbsfleet (or at least the junction between Gravesend and Ebbsfleet), so they're never on HS1 if they change at Gravesend. It's perhaps debatable whether you're on HS1 if you get off a London bound train at Ebbsfleet though.

The conductors always advise London-bound passengers without HS1 tickets to change at Gravesend. As soon as the train leaves Gravesend the supplement becomes payable.

Southeastern definitely consider that boarding or alighting at Ebbsfleet Intl places you in the high speed zone although the train goes faster between Strood and Gravesend than between Gravesend and Ebbsfleet !
