Is TfL/Transport still a good career path(operationally)?

I mean TfL/Transport is a relatively well paid sector (also one of the most unionised!) however creeping privatisation and contracting seems to suggest a decline in wages in operational roles (I.E train dispatcher).

Essentially it's quite a hard sector to enter - the few non - agency roles are always oversubscribed (I.E CSA for LU).


Essentially does anyone share my fair that pay in the transport sector could soon fall to those in retail? Is it still wise to aspire to be a train driver?

No chance, the unions are way too strong and there is a demand for decent staff throughout the industry. Get in there and fill yer boots while you can

Train driving isn't the only well paid job out there! Many office roles in TfL have a decent salary and there is real scope for progression - there are always dozens of jobs advertised internally.

I mean operationally! The reforms to the tube staffing will reduce the number of Station supervisors.
