Well, that wasn't in Buxton, that was in Leicester! Which has pride events and is famous for being multicultural and all that, so I was quite surprised.

Leicester... hmm, well I won't argue against it being multicultural. However, at the risk of being flamed for supposed racism, I would say that perhaps some ethnic groups more prevalent in areas such as Leicester are generally less open to homosexuality than other groups.

Just because it's a big multicultural city, don't assume most would be cool with it. All the (thankfully small) homophobia I've experienced has been in places such as London, Bristol, Birmingham, Cheltenham etc.

London surprises me. I thought London would be really open to it...
Although, I went to Europride in London in 2006, and I remember it was the same day as a rather important football match.
The football hooligans were MASSIVELY outnumbered, but it didn't seem to stop them shouting comments about us all.

I find that ignoring people tends to be better than anything. I've got in quite a few fights before, but obviously, I'm quite small and weak and tend to have a disadvantage against groups of bigger people.

London has a pretty big population of immigrants, lots from very religious backgrounds, e.g. Eastern Europe. I can tell you the story of the foreign guy on the tube who didn't like it, if you wish.
