Veering very slightly off topic, what about an entire branch line that only saw passenger services for 7 years?

The Wombourne branch which ran to the west of Dudley & Wolverhampton consisted of 9 stations which were open from 1925 to 1932, the line survived as a freight only route until the 60s. Surprisingly 2 of the stations are still largely intact now.

As noted on the other topic, Griffiths Crossing (near the Ferodo factory), Caernarfon, was opened for one day for the Investiture of the Prince of Wales on 1st July 1969.

I remember being on a DMU special to a temporary station at Amlwch in the early 1990's. I think the station opened and closed on the same day.

Croydon Central branch was opened in 1868 closed in 1871 reopened 1886 and finally closed 1890

Eastry- Sandwich Road section of the East Kent Railway opened in May 1925 closed for passengers in November 1928 but lingered on for the occasional freight train until 1st January 1950 The section between Sandwich Road to Richborough Port including a passenger station at Richborough was built but never used by passenger services.

but I put forward my contender as winner to be...
.. Plynlimmon and Hafan Tramway in mid Wales (a few miles north of Aberystywth)
opened for freight in 1897 passengers service started March 1898
and the whole railway was closed by December 1899

Chee Dale Halt was open for one summer, July to September, in 1987.

As for quick closures then re-openings, I'd say Whitley Bay, which was closed for 11 months in 1979/80.

Bugsworth station was built in 1866, ready for opening when the Midland line opened for passenger traffic between Miller's Dale and New Mills Central in November of that year. However, due to a landlslip in October, the line had to reconstucted and Bugsworth station became "back-to-front", with the new lines passing what had been the entrance side of the station buildings.

Therefore a station being closed a few weeks before it was due to be opened must take the prize, if negative counting is allowed!

I think the date was 3rd June 1992 when two return trips ran from Bangor. Does anybody know if Amlwch station was ever used again?

Wasn't there also a short-lived station on the Ironbridge power station branch serving Blists Hill museum?

New Wandsworth station opened 29th March 1869, closed 1st November of the same year.

The dates I have for New Wandsworth were opened 29th March 1858
closed 1 Nov. 1869.
I crossed checked this with the closing of the first Wandsworth Common station in 1858 and opening of the second station in 1869.

I have used several temporary stations erected for depot open days.
I only remember using one branch line being reopened for one day that was Brighton to Kemp Town branch which ran an hourly passenger service on 26th June 1971 as a farewell before complete closure.
(The passenger service had originally ceased in 1933 but remained open for freight traffic until 1971)

Narborough station on the outskirts of Leicester on the Leicester-Birmingham line was closed on 4th March 1968, but BR was forced to reopen it due to public demand, it reopened on 5th January 1970 and has been in use ever since. The station is even more well used now due to the growth of nearby villages, with many people commuting by train into Leicester (and some to Birmingham).

I don't know if it counts (probably does if Workington North is acceptable), but there was a station opened at MEADOWBANK for the duration of the 1986 Commonwealth Games. It wasn't on the actual ECML, but on a loop that left the ECML (eastwards) at Abbeyhill and went on the north side of the stadium with the actual station on (I THINK) Marionville Road. It rejoined the ECML almost at the site of the former depot at St. Margarets.

Finningley Temporary Platform. Opened for one day on the 19th September 1981 for an air display at RAF Finningley.

(Source:- Disused Stations Website).

I actually used that! I'm sure got a special direct from Liverpool.

Open for 11 years, but lost in the mists of time, Meyrick Park Halt between Bournemouth Central and Branksome, opened 1/3/1906, closed 1/11/1917.

Almost forgot Lake Halt on the Hamworthy Jct -Poole Docks, (formerly Poole's first station) branch, built I believe for workers at the shipyard. Not certain of exact dates, but opened 1916, closed 1920 I believe.

That's all true, but the station remained open until 1998, albeit only used for the odd special event.

Here it is! Specials ran up to Amlwch on several bank holidays over 1992, so it did survive a little more than a day. I don't know if it was still there by the time the two Anglesey Odyssey tours ran in the autumn of 1993.
