Very true. Michael himself was meant to be on my train recently but he was four hours behind schedule. He was filming the section from Blantyre to Linlithgow. Heard this rumour from one of his reception committee - just a rumour mind, but it does seem a logical progression to the series.

This is not confirmed but Michael Portillo has reportedly said Continental Railway Journeys will return end of October / beginning of November. Good news if true I really like his Continental journeys.

GBRJ will be back in January as normal

I remember many years ago spending one night in the Colsterworth Travelodge and rather than the adjacent Little Chef for dinner, drove into Grantham to find some sort of restaurant. Couldn't find anything open so dropped into a corner shop to ask. In there, they said that there wasn't much to offer, then they rather quietly mentioned the 'Margaret Thatcher' restaurant which was apparently in her father's old grocer's shop. The look of embarassment on their faces was quite profound. I didn't ask whether it was about the abysmal lack of hospitality in the town or its association with an ex-prime minister of a few months.

Did they tell you to get on a bike and go find it? Oh,no, that was the Norman Tebbit restaurant.

One may be of one or another opinion of Michael Portillo as a politician, but he is, in my humble opinion, a good travel journalist
