Excuse my ignorance, I have seen a lot of references on this website and others about the "Prentendolino", but I am unsure what that is. Is it what was the normal type of Inter-City/Virgin loco hauled trains with MK 3 carriages that existed and were in daily use until the pendolino and voyagers were introduced and took over the WCML routes?

The trip advertised here does look good, I wonder if anyone will do another based from a London departure?

Yes, it's the last remaining WCML rake of Mk3 daytime stock that was the everyday experience until a decade ago.

If only eh? Or a 90, that would be acceptable I should imagine too, or an 86 which I would imagine even more acceptable.

Either way, whatever's on it, I'm working with no chance of getting the time off due to others being off that weekend. If it was an 87 mind I'd be tamping at not being able to go!

I believe it was looked at (with an extra attraction too!) but the answer was unfortunately 'no' - in any case, I'm not sure how appropriate the Pretendolino to Glasgow is...how often did it work to there?

I think it's more the use of Virgin MK3s with traditional haulage on a traditional route for MK3s and AC locos, rather than the use specifically of Pretendolino stock going to Glasgow, that's desired.

Shame it can't happen, were alternative dates looked at?

There’s been at least one, in 2010 or 2011. Sadly, with the disbanding of Cargo-Ds fine collection of air-con mark 2s and 3s further opportunities in the near future seem lacking. Though at least there is still a mainline registered class 87, and I take it Riviera still operate their rakes of ex-Virgin and Intercity liveried mark 2s?

We said farewell to the 90 hauled service yesterday, today is saying goodbye to the mk3s.

Looking at RTT, it would suggest that it will form this service back to Wembley (same scheduled platform, VT service, etc.)

Looking at Stafford's facebook page, it looks as though the class 90 and DVT are down at Crewe, or at least they were earlier. Is this still the case?

There will be a VSTP path going in next week from Wembley to Booths at Rotherham!

Currently waiting for it to go back to Wembley! It appears to have stopped outside of Crewe!

According to RTT, it has been cancelled at Stafford. Anyone know why?

Two possibilities:

Firstly, was it top & tail or with the DVT in use? If it wasn't, then it would not have got into Wembley last night as the north end was blocked due to an engineers possession.

OR

I notice it was nearly an hour late, if there was no means of making that amount of time up then it would not have got back south before all four lines were blocked around 01:00 hrs.

I have heard rumour that the DVT failed at Stafford - not sure if this was the case

I would guess it would have had the DVT on, as I think it was down at Crewe coupled to the 90 during the day I think (picture on Stafford station's Facebook page).

If it did indeed fail at Stafford, does anybody know when/if it was/has been moved?

It didn't fail, there was a possession south of Stafford and it didn't make its slot as it was an hour + late out of Crewe so went down on Sunday afternoon from Stafford. This coming from Virgin Staff that were on the platform as it departed Crewe. as the driver was taxied from Stafford to his home in London!

For anyone interested in one last look, it's currently in the Wembley sidings with a DRS 90 and its DVT attached.
