Anyone know if 159s have at seat plug sockets fitted
TIA
TIA
I believe only in First Class.
*feels his blood start to boil*
Are they plugs or sockets...
Assuming you're all talking about a BS1363 Fixed Receptacle then that would be a Socket!.
Just because I mainly work with aerospace connectors nowadays doesn't mean I've forgotten the BS definitions for building services. Don't know why but this always really, really gets my back up when people call sockets plugs, strangely it's not the other way round.
Anyone who's traveled on the 350/3s and paid attention will notice this same mistake, it doesn't mean that it's forgivable.
[OFFTOPIC]Even aerospace connectors can still be classified as plugs and sockets, it's just not quite as simple as 'the one on the end of the lead is a plug'. (Sorry, I'm a professional linguistic pedant. I know that you know this!)
To digress further, I was astonished at work one day (large aerospace company) to hear an engineer asking what the difference between a male and female connector was.[/OFFTOPIC]
My appologies, back to the 159 sockets discussion...
Thank you, Nym, you beat me to it.
I have up to now seen no need for signatures in this forum, but this thread has changed my mind. Inspired by the signature of a certain respected contributor here I must now append the following to every post:
You probably mean an AC power outlet
Have the 159s had their midlife overhaul yet?
I think, if they haven't, plug sockets at every seat would curry favours with lots of passengers (self included!).
They must now be due at least a lick of paint and some seat covers, as must many of the 444s and 450s?
The only thing I think the Desiros could do with is a repaint on the roof and a good scrub in the toilets.Apart from instances of random vandalism I don't think I've yet seen a worn seat cover on an SWT Desiro, I think they are holding up very well in that respect.

If a train station is a station for trains, then a plug socket must be a socket for plugs.
I think the 159s are in very good condition both inside and out, which is probably a credit to both Wabtec, who did the refurbishment, and Salisbury depot who maintain them.
But I did notice last week, for the first time, a frayed seat cover. It was on the outer edge, where the leg of a person going to sit next to the window pushes past it.
