Ilkeston Railway Station construction delayed?

If it's the construction of the car park that increases the flooding risk, as implied by the Evening Post article, then perhaps deferring the car park would allow the station to be built. Although the budget issue suggests they will have to cut something else to pay for the flood alleviation so maybe that's a reason not to build anything until the budget has been reallocated.

What are the bus services and their frequency that will serve the station site on completion, for those without cars.

Only TrentBarton's 27 every 30min, serving southern/central Ilkeston and Kimberley. The centre of Ilkeston with numerous other bus routes is about half a mile away.

That confirms what I had heard. Maybe this is why the car park is so necessary at the station.

Ilkeston Town FC went belly up. The new Ilkeston FC have taken their place. Can't see a phoenix Eastwood rising from their ashes anytime soon, though.

Weirdly enough this weeks issue of the Eastwood & Kimberley Advertiser reports the first victory for the just formed Eastwood CFC in their first match against high flying CML North side Thoresby CW in the Notts Senior Cup..... So never say never

Maybe the bus routes could be extended the Half a mile to the station to coincide with its opening day.

Maybe those in local authority, knowing of the present public transport access to the railway station would be aware of this situation and have already discussed that matter with the operator involved, hopefully.

There is going to be one train an hour in each direction. I'm afraid I can hardly see a stampede of buses being necessary to the station. At many times of day the current 27 runs three quarters empty. Yes improved links would be welcomed but highly unlikely in these times of transport funding cuts.

I am not au fait with the exact position of the new station and its distance from public transport, so may I ask anyone if it would be comparable to the situation at Chapel-en-le-Frith railway station and the distance from there to the nearest public transport route?

I agree. At leas the 27 provides a link to Kimberley and the southern parts of Ilkeston that don't currently have easy access to the rail network.

It will be interesting to see whether the buses on the 27 route actually connect with the trains. It could be useful for passengers from parts of Ilkeston and Awsworth but surely from Kimberley it would be easier to get the bus into Nottingham unless you were wanting to take the train to travel north. I suppose it will just be down to luck if the current timetable does connect. Would be a great shame if the bus leaves a minute before the train arrives! I can't see Trent/Barton changing their times to fit in with the trains. They never changed the hourly 141 timetable to fit in with the trains when Hucknall station originally opened on the Robin Hood Line.

Trent Barton do have a connecting train/bus fare via Alfreton to the McArthur Glen Outlet at J28, and honoured some rail tickets during the Nottingham station blockade, so they are willing to look at inter-modal coordination on a case-by-case basis. However I agree that Kimberley to Nottingham would be easier on other TB bus services, so perhaps the 27 from that direction will end up connecting with the train north but not south.

From Kimberley passengers heading north would travel to Langley Mill Station rather than Nottingham. They will continue to do so as bus links are much better and include evenings & Sundays. Can only see car drivers defecting to Ilkeston rather than Langley Mill due to new car park. I haven't travelled north out of Nottingham since Langley Mill opened as it is more convenient to get to and cheaper to travel from than Nottingham.

According to todays Ilkeston Advertiser paper the station opening is now delayed until LATE 2015. This is due to £3m worth of flood alleviation measures that they have suddenly realised are necessary. This extra expense will see savings having to be made elsewhere on the project.
As someone who has passed this site regularly for 20 years my first comment on the plans was 'I would never park a car in that car park'. Why? Simple, the railway line is built on the Erewash flood plain and I have seen that whole area under water on more than one occasion....
