There was always (from the meeting at which the two-phase approach was agreed anyway) going to be a degree of abortive track, OLE, signalling and cable route works involved.

The three-track layout solved the issue of introducing fast electrics in 2014, and the four-track layout finishes the enhancement in time for the new 2016 timetable. The land adjacent to the bus station and telephone exchange is required by the new 90mph Up Chat Moss alignment and is the same pretty much irrespective of the arrangement of the tracks at this speed (though there are some layouts which need more land, but they were discounted).

It think three masts have to go in and come out again becuse there wasn't the space to put them anywhere else until the additional land was bought (which has happened far sooner than anyway really hoped).

Most members on here who have been following this thread, me included will be aware of what has been going on and what is being planned in the future! :roll: The only thing we dont know, is what alterations and amendments including timescales are being planned for now and the future and what you have written is sadly nothing new, hence my written observation about mast location(s) near to Huyton Junction. Something is not quite right at that location hence seeing if mast being located outside the existing fence (ie council / bus station land) until land has been transferred over and new boundary / fencing has been put into place. May be my visual observation was not as clear cut as I think but definitely no space to put a mast in the middle.

Took a trip to Liverpool yesterday.
Noticed in the yard at Edge Hill a number of R/Rail lorries. Empty in the morning but on return after 18.00 saw that 3 were reloaded with steelwork ready for work last night.

Anybody have any idea as to the Reg numbers of these Lorries?

One other comment.
On the way to Liverpool noticed a number of areas between Manchester and Liverpool that gave a bit of a rough ride, a bit of bouncing and swaying, but not enough to spill the coffee.
However going back the other way the coffee cup needed the lid.
I hope that some tamping is planned in the near future. It seriously needs it.

I'm afraid I don't know any registration numbers, but by remarkable coincidence I do happen to know where their "home depot" is where they and their kin can be seen en masse, including a stretch of pseudo-OHLE for testing and training purposes. If that is of interest please say and I'll expand.

And there are wires in place over both Chat Moss lines between Ordsall Lane (short gap) and Deal St.
Not all the wire is fully connected to arms and droppers yet.
Only one more giant "rib" left to fit at Victoria.

A first bit of return wire is now in place west of the M57 bridge on the Wigan line.

I toured Lime St-Earlestown-Roby-Wigan NW-Wavertree TP-Lime St today and found the following:

Headlines:
1. Two new sets of wires up between Huyton Jct and Prescot
2. Multiple wires up through Thatto Heath to Pilkingtons’ Sidings
3. Several masts erected West of Wavertree Tech Park
4. Masts and other works undertaken near Earlestown
5. Continued progress with masts and bases between Roby Jct and Huyton Jct.

1.1 A short stretch (approx. 2 or 3 masts length) of single wires have been strung up between Huyton Jct and the M57 bridge on the Wigan Branch.
1.2 Single wires have been strung up beside both tracks from immediately North of the M57 bridge to the previous southern end of wiring south of Prescot.

2. There have been single wires up beside both tracks from Thatto Heath to Pilkingtons’ sidings for some time now. Today I could see that additional wires have been strung up throughout this stretch.

1 & 2 mean there are at least two continuous wires up from the M57 bridge to Pilkingtons’ sidings South of St Helens Central.

3. A lot of metalwork has gone up near the eastern exit from Tuebrook sidings, ie immediately West of the Stephenson Way bridge. “Then and now” photos in my updated Flickr show these.

4. Erecting masts and motorway-style crash barriers continues between Sankey Viaduct and Earlestown station.

5. I didn’t do a proper tally, but several bases seemed new and some piles have been driven home. The safe walking route gets longer and the safety fencing around the difficult Archway Road bridge has turned blue.

Other:
I couldn’t see any changes North of Pilkingtons’s sidings, but I can confirm that two gaps have been cut in the southern side fencing on the M6 viaduct. These match two of the three gaps in the northern side fencing and seem positioned where masts will be installed.

I couldn’t see any evidence of work on Sankey Viaduct or on Rainhill Station beyond the initial breaking of ground for mast bases.

Electricians were working on Roby Platform 2/3 stairwell. The lifts are still not working.
Roby has exuded an air of beehive-like activity for months. Today it seemed much less so. Orange was around, but in platoons, not batallions.

They seem to show no inclination to remove the old unwired masts and gear, or to reuse them. They are just "in the way".
On the other hand I noticed today that some of the old gantries carrying live wires at Wavertree now also have new attachments for Chat Moss registration arms.
Lots of slipping and sliding on the wet leaves too!

Guilty as charged. Thank you for this sound advice.

I never did understand what had gone wrong with Picasa, I even had 8A_Rail very kindly give me well over half an hour of his time and skill and we were both flummoxed. I decided to write it off as a bad job and migrated to flickr.

An alternative that I recently discovered and may work if your software is similar to mine: right click on the link (whether or not it appears in shortened form) in the previous post or other document, and from the menu that comes up select "Copy Link Location".
