Seeing on twitter that there's been some kind of 'incident' on a train at Weybridge with police in attendance.

Anyone know anything more?

It was purportedly a fight on a up Basing service (2L62).

All I can say from what I'm hearing it must have been on hell of a fight, because the up platform has been closed for most of the evening and even now the following applies:

The country-end of platform 2 is still closed, but services are able to call at Weybridge on the up slow line, but guards must only open the following doors:

455 front four coaches, 450 front four coaches, 444 do a local door release.

Wondering how you make a 4 coach release on an 8 coach 455...

Simple Bigfoot. Lock 'em before you leave Woking & leave 'em locked until Weybridge & then progressively unlock between stations, using one of the GoPs in the coaches at Walton, Hersham & Esher, it should be possible to unlock all of the rear 4 coaches by Esher, it only takes seconds to unlock them provided that the locking socket is aligned with the hole!

SDO for 450's.

Cant lock 2 doors on a coach without taking it out of service, the train would have to leave Woking (or Guildford) with only the front unit in passenger service and the rear unit locked out completely.

True, but if you marshal everyone at Guildford into the front 4 coaches, use the "Button" & you know the one I mean. That means that the rear 4 will be empty on departure and then the guard can then start the train from the centre, then walk back, locking the doors as they go, you have 8' to go through the rear 4 coaches & lock them OOS.

They can then start the train from the rear cab at Woking, West Byfleet & Byfleet & NH and Weybridge, then once the train leaves Weybridge, walk through the "locked" rear 4, unlocking as they go, they have approx 5' between Weybridge & Walton to do so or if they get to Walton before they've completed it, use a GoP to do station duties there and then restart and unlock before Hersham.

I do agree but lets remember the passengers will need to be shepherded at all the intermediate stations as well which will slow things down a bit unless the driver stops at the 4 car mark, and you know how jumpy manglement are about that even if it is on purpose with the rear 4 locked out.

The last one up the Botley line is a ten car with the rear five locked out as all stations between Southsea and Eastleigh are 5 car only, I've never had a driver try and stop on the 5 car mark at any of those platforms though, you'd have to be pretty stupid to do that despite there being safety risk.

Yeah I know that, can anyone tell me why it isnt allowed to stop at the 5 mark at FTN?

I was referring to a 455 service doing it to try and minimise delay waiting for the passengers to walk forward to board the front 4 only!

This appeared on the Get Surrey website.

A pensioner was assaulted on a train on Wednesday evening, leading to two platforms at Weybridge railway station being cordoned off.

The incident happened on board the 5.45pm South West Trains (SWT) service from Basingstoke to London Waterloo.

The 70-year-old man suffered serious head injuries and two teenagers were arrested.

British Transport Police (BTP) cordoned off the platforms at Weybridge shortly after 6.30pm.

Detective Inspector Andy Rose said on Wednesday night: "The man was taken to hospital where he was treated for serious head injuries, before being allowed home.

“Two teenagers... will be interviewed in due course.

“We have launched an investigation and I would like to appeal to anyone who was travelling on the service who may have witnessed this incident to contact us."

The train would have travelled through Hook, Winchfield, Fleet, Farnborough Main, Brookwood, Woking, West Byfleet and Byfleet & New Haw stations.

Services were delayed through Weybridge station until around 9pm.

An SWT spokesperson: "British Transport Police dealt with an incident on board a Basingstoke to London Waterloo service shortly after 6.30pm on Wednesday October 8.

"As a result of the incident, there were delays of around 10 minutes to services between Weybridge and Woking.

"Police requested that platforms 1 and 2 were cordoned off as part of their investigation.

"We're sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused to passengers."

Anyone with information on the assault should contact BTP on 0800 405040, or text 61016, quoting reference SSUB/B12 of October 8.

Crimestoppers can also be called anonymously on 0800 555111.

I would have thought that the "serious" head injuries" that were sustained by a 70 year old man who had been taken to hospital, after the attack took pace on a 5.45pm service, would certainly warrant overnight hospital conditioning monitoring, yet that report says that he was allowed home.

Perhaps the matter of the script line in a recent "Emmerdale" TV series that was mentioned in a recent thread on the General Discussion forum, where a woman in her late 30's was viciously struck with a hammer on the side of the head, immediately being rendered unconscious, dragged along the floor then put in the boot of a car yet after a period of time, but when the boot was opened, had the ability to kick her attacker and run away fast in a straight line with no seeming side effects with the speech ability seemingly impaired, shows how wonderful it seems that evolution has gifted such wonderful powers of recovery to the human race..<(

Awful news, I dont understand how that could happen so early in the afternoon. I suspect they were drunk and "just having a laugh" :(

As Basingstoke's call at Weybridge & Walton, my guess is that they "may" have come from the Chertsey line. A line which is synonymous with trouble & violent behaviour by the local kids/teens.

When I got to Woking last night they were telling passengers to board the late running 19.02 and circulate via Surbiton. It was being run fast to Surbiton. Bit unfortunate if you only wanted to go to West Byfleet as there are no semi fast trains South from Surbiton until after 8pm.

Hopefully justice will be done and if necessary the youths will be re-educated into not committing violent acts such as this.

All they'll get if they're charged will be a slap on the wrist & told not to do it again. The kids these days seem to think that having a criminal record is some bizarre badge of honour!

We ought to start dealing with them like they do in some Arab states, a good lashing with salt rubbed into the wounds afterwards, or decent prison terms. They won't do it again.

A 5.45pm train is not what one would normally describe as being "so early in the afternoon". I wonder how "having a laugh" can have serious head injuries as its result?

I still have not got over watching the film "Kidulthood" set in London which portrays "life" in the raw". Has anyone else on the forum watched this film?

You must live on another planet then or try moving down to SW London & NE Surrey and you'll soon find out what they're like.

Can I move/swap with you into your perfect & idyllic world and you can have mine, which is reality.

It is well known that the award of an ASBO was similarly regarded by the more younger unfortunates in certain "deprived" parts of the Greater Manchester area...<(

Being just 19 my self, I suspect I know a tad more about the behaviour and intentions of kids/young people than yourself. (I may be wrong)

Talk about sweeping generalisations. Just because some kids mis-behave down your way, that suddenly doesn't make every single youngster in Britain a young criminal who hopes to get a police record.

Of course there's certain groups that do act this way, but you're telling me that they are the majority? I think you're the one who needs a bit of reality here.

Those wishing for police records/asbos etc, are certainly the minority, and the majority of kids and youngsters do not wish to be involved.

It is when you are actually physically confronted by a group of "the minority" that you describe above who feel that they are invincible that any ideas of having kind thoughts and social understanding that you might have lovingly espoused go "right out of the window", so to say...

Do I need to remind any forum members that Gary Newlove in Warrington was one who paid the ultimate price for attempting to confront such a groupage of similar individuals...<(

But that doesn't mean that they are still the majority, like it had been suggested above.

I'm young, so of course I'm going to stand up against sweepign generalisations.

I'm not denying that there are youngsters out there like that, I've been confronted myself, but I'm not going to say they are the majority of the travelling youth who use public transport.

I would dare you to come and travel on some of the late night services out of London. I've had a knife waved in my face at Byfleet & NH and had bottles & stones lobbed at me on the Epsom & Chessington lines.

As for the Ascot - Aldershot line, I don't feel safe at all at night & I'm a well built fella.

But does that make the majority of youngsters the same? No. Which is what you first suggested.

I'm sorry you've had these incidents, but it doesn't mean we're all the same.

You wait until you get to my age and you'll think just the same. I don't trust kids/teenagers one jot.

Your generation need to learn: Trust & respect are earned, NOT bestowed.

You will get my trust & respect, if you show respect to me first.
You respect those in charge (like the train crews) & your elders.

But is it any wonder that some may not respect you if you go in pre-judging every single youngster you meet? (No, I'm not talking about in the circumstances where your may be threatened/confronted)

I've been confronted/threatened just 5 minutes from my own home, but that doesn't mean I now judge every single person my age or younger that I meet.

Very few of use are like those you are describing I'm afraid, and whether you like that or not, it's true.

I'm more than happy to defend those of my age or younger, as we, the majority, are not like those you describe.

Certainly when I was a kid railway staff, bus conductors etc were people you respected and if you didn't behave you were off the train or bus, nowadays you get kids telling police officers to "f*** off". For me it all stems from the lack of discipline in schools that is to blame.
