I am going to travel around Manchester on the 18th Oct and hope to use a GM Wayfarer. I have an advance ticket from Southampton Airport to Macclesfield and hoped to stay on the train to Manchester using the Wayfarer. However despite the NRE website saying the ticket was available at staffed stations Southampton Airport Station said they could not find it on their system. As I was on a trip to Oxford today using Cross Country the same service as I will be using on the 18th I asked the guard if he could sell me one. He tried to find it on his machine but failed. He said he would contact colleagues to find the code number for it so he could issue one but hadn't managed it by the time I got off at Oxford.

Has anyone any knowledge of how I can get one without getting off at Macclesfield to buy one and then getting on a later train to complete the trip to Manchester? The code for Advantix would probably be sufficient.

Thanks

It should be amongst the rovers and rangers on Ticket Issuing Systems. Possibly under "GM Wayfarer", or "GM Concessionary Wayfarer" as appropriate.

You may also be able be able to get it from a PayPoint outlet - look under TFGM tickets.

From memory (in Avantix) it's listed as "GM Wayfarer" or similar on the rovers screen, so they'll need to look under "G" rather than "W", which I suspect was the issue.

The NRE says available at PayPoints within the area of validity. I want to get it before I reach the area of validity

I don't think PayPoint is that smart......

Probably the PayPoint receipt needs to be enclosed in some sort of pouch for it to be valid, which would only be available in the area of validity? Just a guess though.

I don't trust PayPoint or any such chains for ticket purchases. My experiences so far are all negative with most shopkeepers never having heard of the travel tickets which they were supposedly able to sell.

Most just treat it as a payment facility for household bills. Nothing more.

BRfares.org is your friend here.

Thanks I'll try again tomorrow

I showed BRFARES printout to Winchester ticket office this morning and they just produced the ticket. So thanks again for the help. Much appreciated.

Agree - wouldn't want to buy a complex ticket. Wayfarer is a simple rover that they just need to locate on the machine and print.

That's not been my experience. I've never had a wallet or been pulled up for not having one.

Glad you got sorted!

(Buying from PayPoint is a bit of a moot point for me now, as you can now buy them on the train, which didn't used to be possible)
