The Northamton Loop, particularly north of Northampton. The low speeds make the town undesirable for long distance services.

Would need complete resignalling to raise the linespeed from Rugby to Northampton. You are never going to do anything with the speeds around the station either. It isn't exactly slow anyway from the south, 90/100 from Hanslope to Hunsbury Hill.

The London Overground approach to Clapham Junction is dire - a long 10mph PSR on new but bedded-in trackwork which is virtually straight. The 10mph extends about half a mile out of the platform and just adds yet more journey time to the excruciatingly slow LORO operation, where trains crawl in and out of stations, have inexplicably long dwell times and barely get above 30mph anywhere.
If I want to get from Clapham Junction to Canada Water (direct train by LORO), it's actually quicker to go to Waterloo and change to the Jubilee line!

I think there was a weak bridge on the spur between Clapham Junction and Wandsworth Road.

How much would it cost to make the really slow section (I think it is 20mph linespeed) a short distance out of Carmarthen (towards Ferryside) safe for trains to pass at the prevailing linespeed in the area (which I think is 60mph)? And why is that little bit (the length of the restriction can't be much longer than a solo 153) so potentially unstable that such a low speed is required when other sections of the line from Carmarthen to Llanelli seem to be even closer to the river/sea?

I don't know, but I would guess this is a weak structure - is it part of where the line also forms part of the sea wall? It will probably be sorted out at some point but unlikely to be a priority unless it deteriorates further and threatens to close the line.
