It works a semi-fast Liv St-Norwich in the evening peak and it returns on that service as a way of getting them back to London. I covered it on my angila trip in april Diss-Norwich and the 3rd set was the Eversholt demo set.
17.02 only runs through to Norwich as no path to about turn at Stowmarket. Keeps the half-hourly pattern up road going but not for any commercial reason whatsoever.
Apart from selling cheap advances on the way back
(Took it all the way during a GA £5 seat sale... thought 'wow, cool' at first... then it slowly got more and more irritating!)

Must be irritating, paying just a fiver for 115 miles of travel
The 17.02 Liverpool St to Norwich used to be 8 x 321 to Harwich International to connect with the Stena High Speed ferry to the Hook. Now it runs to Norwich it has to be a 12 car to cope with the loadings between Liverpool St and Chelmsford. Of course on the way back a 4 car would be enough at that time of night.
Boat train has moved to 19:32 ex Liv St because the departure time of the boat has changed.
As for the 19:30 back needing only to be a four car - sometimes it is :P
When I got the 17:02 from Ipswich and return from Norwich to Ipswich, it felt like 4 coaches would be enough from both Ipswich and Norwich
Try catching the 17.02 from Stratford to Chelmsford though.
Just what I was thinking. Far too many passengers on GEML to do anything else really.
