At kings cross waiting for the 22-00 East Coast service to leeds.

Of the next 16 great northern departures 3 are cancelled . Why such a high percentage?

The boards said driver shortage. But 2126 and 2226 to Stevenage via Hertford North were both cancelled, which is hardly great news!

Maybe an event on somewhere and drivers don't want to work their rest days, which is of course their right. I mean who wants to work on a Friday & Saturday night with all of the drunken undesirables/louts etc.

Absolutely agree with that, if only I wasn't retired now I'd be out there volunteering to work every rest day possible

Mm. I expect so.

Not that I care or I suspect the drivers up there worry about it either, as they have an inviolate right to take their rostered days off. They're not obliged to work them as you or I aren't.

So if they don't have anyone wanting to do overtime or work their day off, then the train gets cancelled. Simple as that. And with companies cutting the overtime rates, I don't blame anyone else for refusing to work it either.

Not with my lot. Basic money for rest days & soon the booking of rest days is to change and needless to say, the number of people who are prepared to work on those terms has dropped off again.

You must be joking!!
The only reason there is so much OT being worked is because there are so many signalling positions not being filled or people off sick. It has got to the stage in some areas where people are refusing to work any more OT because they are knackered.

We are now 22L due to BTP being called at Peterborough due to anti social behaviour. This seems to have given all the other passengers on this train an annoyingly low tolerance for any sound at all!

One of the boxes I sign had 2 residents out of 5 for quite a while (nearly 6 months) with no reliefman either!

Which is why I wonder, when they say X amount of signallers will reduce to X, if that is posts or actually employed signallers.

That was a very strange journey on the 2200 last night. It felt a bit like being in a well-supplied siege! We were not in the part of the train where people were being dragged off by the BTP, but the announcements made by the guard - and even more surprisingly, the buffet staff - were very strange. You know, just in case you were planning on doing something that might get you an ASBO - we politely request that you don't or we'll have you dragged off the train Bit different to being told not to hesitate to ask for help if needed several times per journey! Can't imagine anyone had a very enjoyable shift there...
