It tends to be athletes and anyone sporty...Otherwise there wouldn't be any competition would there!
hock:
I went to Beijing in 1997. Very beautiful (once outside the smog CBD, but also a city of great contrast - shiny skyscrapers and hotels, with shanty towns. Modern cars alongside horse & cart. In many ways it seemed to have less 'law' that the Uk - less roadsigns, less CCTV, less 'rules' and yet at the same time, what law it had was rigourously enforced, and included rules on the media, free speech and public gatherings.

I'll be travelling for seven months, by train (and about four ferries), from Manchester to Hong Kong.

Wow, sounds like quite a voyage!
Oh, yeah. It's going to be fun. I've decided to start from Manchester, as I miss the place so much! To be honest, even though I only lived there for four years, I consider it my alternate home.
When will you start your journey?

I am organising a RailUkforums boycott of the Olympic games in protest of China's Human Rights record. Who's with me...
Steven Speilberg
