Has there ever been a serious campaign to reopen this route. Proposed for electrification by the Southern Railway in 1946, it had steady rises in passengers from 1948 till closure in 1966.
The closure was apparently marginal with no attempt to single the line or destaff and even BR apparently wondering whether they had done the right thing.
Had it survived and been electrified it would surely have been as busy as the mid sussex or tonbridge hastings and provided a diversionary route to Brighton.
In fact were the government to deem Steyning, Partridge Green, Henfield and Southwater as four of the governments proposed new "Garden Cities", with the line still largely intact as a footpath & no major engineering structures or level crossings, it might be an ideal candidate for private funding by property developers on the kilbride model?
