So all this talk of the wheel lathe and the unit wasn't even going there to use it?!

Definitely going to / from Ilford EMUD for C4 or C6. The DMUs in question have been going there for a while.

To be fair, I've only recently started going to Stratford for commuting purposes. Now I know that Thames Turbos are patrons of Ilford, unusual as it is!

im glad the A + B shops are still operating as what is technically a Level 5 facility ...when I was there - seems like a lifetime ago the staple diet in A shop was 315,317,302, 321, 310,312, code 4's and casualty work .The B shop could handle almost anything above solebar..the Bigger unclassified code 5 work went to ZG1, or ZN1.

Ilfords competitor for work was Selhurst level 5...and we sent some strange stuff there...
310's for lock changing was always a puzzle for me( it was a repair capacity issue)...I recall a couple of sets being stranded over night awaiting movement back to East Ham because there was a brake release issue, the 37 that came to pick them up couldn't get the brakes off on the trip...everyone tried etc etc..wouldn't happen...anyway I think it was either a call to BY or EM and they went the next day...302s going down to ZG1 etc

shopping of the units and their overhaul sites was always quite interesting...

but that was the past and long time ago...over 25 years to be honest

Is there or did there used to be a wheel lathe at Hornsey? Used by Anglia 153s at some point? Or has senility really got me?

As stated, the chiltern and FGW 165's are getting new bogies etc in A and B shop by BT. There are also FCC 365's getting repainted/refurbed. The Wheel lathe as said mainly gets GA units/loco's/coaches but also a fair amount of freightliner wagons and the odd steam train. I should know, I shunted that 165 around Ilford for weeks before it left!
Also heres something I found odd, the FGW 165 that left Ilford for Reading last night was 5V66, but there is also a regular 379 arrival in the night as 5V66, is it normal that they use the same headcode like that?
