Not seen any yet. Although from what I've heard I imagine it looks something like 222101 after its fire - like this: https://flic.kr/p/eWhAdf

Thanks. As the 222 is a close relation to a 220 the discussion on thread http://www.railforums.co.uk/showthread.php?t=85712 seems relevant .... the fire brigaid was needed there too. Time to repair was apparently 6 months. I somehow think here fire here may have been a little worse. It seems in both cases the coach was smoke damaged and possibly even fire damaged, and i indeed wonder if the fire burned through the coach floor.

The report at the time did state that it was "melting the coach body". They did a very good repair on 222101. I travelled on it on Friday in that exact coach, and you'd never know it had been involved in a major fire.
Smoke damage may have been quite bad, as I am told they had to replace the carpets / seat covers.

Scrapped at central rivers? ;)

At Central Rivers? Surely EMR Kingsbury is on the way from Eastleigh and on the same line?

That said, while I'm still not a fan of the 220s and their horrible ride quality, the XC 221s that have gone through a bogie refurbishment do seem to be riding very well at the moment! But that's for another thread.

Any updates on 220007? Not seen any vids or pics of it.

I saw 220007 outside Central Rivers as I passed on Saturday. No signs of external damage at all. It did have the little depot shunter attached the front of it though, so it obviously can't move under its own power yet.

The main issue when trains have a fire is that it is quite often the wiring that burns up or even if wiring isn't the cause of the fire, it often gets damaged as a result. Replacing wiring looms is a very time consuming process so this one could be out of service for quite some time even if it doesn't look badly damaged from the outside.

220007 is currently sitting in Central Rivers yard awaiting attention. No internal damage. All damage is beneath sole bar level. Currently awaiting insurance go ahead for repair

220007 is close to returning to service. The damaged coach has been removed for repair and has a vehicle from 221135 instead. 135 is running around as a 4 car

Well, that will be a sight to see for sure, what with them being 2 quite different vehicles!

Aren't 220 and 221 coaches the same body shell and interior, just with different equipment underfloor?

Different bogies but I think the actual construction material of a 221 is different to that of a 220 too, although they look the same

The 221s probably have some equipment in the body related to the tilt mechanism

You can tell the difference between a 220 and a 221 from the bogies though, they look quite different. At a quick glance it wouldn't be obvious that it was a 220/221 hybrid though.

I suppose at this stage in my mind this is a possibility there was a coach body swap ... i.e. 222007 swapped coach retains '220' bogies and non tilting equipment. this is a thought .... i really don't know the mechanics/logistics/electronics to discern if this is an infeasible possibility.

I would just say it is like 221140 or whatever the number of the 4 car 221 is.

Why swap the bogies over?
They have taken a coach out of one unit and put it in another unit that is it!

Both have been to Bristol today!

Haven't been to Bristol today, next due on Monday I believe as I've been working all weekend (again!)

Edit: Tuesday 2nd September 2014:

Yay I'm on 220007 on the 1500 Bristol to Manchester. I'm actually sat in the carriage out of 221135. Praying it doesn't burst into flames!!!!

Nope, pretty sure 220/221 bodyshells are identical. Both are made from Steel without a doubt. :)

It is 60885 that is currently in 220007. Replacing the damaged 60207

Are either of these the vehicles with the luggage van area in them? Do we know how long 221135 and 220007 will be staying like this for? :)

Yayy, 2,000th Post!

Thanks, Adam :D

Anyone know whether 220007 is still running around with a car from 221135?
