This is one of those 'i saw a train somewhere' threads!

Today (24/08) at 6.20pm I saw FCC's 319373 in a plain white livery at platform 4. Never seen a FCC train there before, is this a rare happening?

How bizzare... were guards and drivers from SN trained on it in preparation for the blockade?

Balfour Beatty are doing the conducting.

The morning and evening kent house and Beckenham junction services will be 6 car networkers , along with 1 ashford and 1 Rochester, the other Rochester will be 8 car 375.

And look out for 377's going to Sevenoaks the next 4 days ( only the FCC crewed services).

Oooooh... not just piloting the normal conductor?

When crews work over a road they don't sign they are conducted by someone who does. They will be on the train to provide route knowledge rather than working the train, they'd need to sign the traction for that. A fine example of an operational term jarring with a job title/commercial designation. Crews are conducted not piloted - a pilotman is a completely different job! ??????

I have now heard DB Shenker, GBRF, Balfours and FCC drivers doing the piloting. I love Forums.

16.25 "Booked" Dual Voltage + 2 x 4 car 377
16.55 "Booked" 3 x 377/2 (!)
17.25 "booked" 4 x 377/3

I will give them a couple of days to bed in and see you on one of the evening trips on Trips on Thursday.

Were doing the conducting. FCC are now conduction all the Southern services into the bays this week.

The 377 trip is a rather early one tho. But may not be the last booked one.

Aye I have had a pilotman with my driver before... we just seem to call them Pilot Guards when, for a example, A Selhurst Guard conducted me via Crystal Palace... Saves confusion that a conductor is conducting a conductor :D

Never heard a reference to a Pilot Guard before, we've always called them route conductors even when a Guard is being conducted. Obviously one of many regional variations :)

I understood we were doing the piloting Westcoaster. Has this changed?

There was a notice in the late notice case this morning saying a/r & cover drivers will be used in an emergency, as extra to the rostered jobs. I certainly understood Blackfriars drivers had some conducting jobs this week anyway though admittedly I haven't seen them... :?

spoke to someone about this today, i always believed if you sign the traction and the route (as FCC drivers do) then they should drive it and the SN driver should just sit it out, but apparantly the SN driver will be driving with the FCC just conducting.

I'm pretty sure I know why but can't say anything more on the matter.

Makes sense.... But then southern drivers cannot drive 12 car DOO.... ( i believe departing Blfrs CD and RA is used as the platform staff are not guard trained therefore they will be DOO from Blfrs platform), so its all getting a bit bitty and political!

Guard could just get off at ECR and the train run DOO from there (10 max I'd assume)...

We've been told we won't be driving because we don't sign 377/1 or/4's.

Sounds like they're looking for a reason to keep Southern drivers at the controls to me...
