Dear all,

I've been given the timetable for this summers Scunthorpe rail tours which I think will be of some interest to members here. I think the site rail network is still the largest privately owned rail network in the UK.

More info can be found here

Appleby Frodingham Railway Preservation Society will be running a series of rail tours around the Scunthorpe site over the summer months using heritage vehicles.

All tours must be pre booked and are on a first come first served basis so are sure to go like hot cakes.

All proceeds go to Appleby Frodingham Railway Preservation Society to maintain the locomotives and rolling stock, enabling them to preserve the future of the rail tours.

Please note photography is only allowed in designated areas.

As I have been working at Scunthorpe Steelworks this week and had this afternoon off I took the opportunity to book one of the tours. It was a very interesting afternoon with an informative commentary so you know what you are looking at. The majority of the trip was steam hauled but managed to hauled for a short section by one of the Tata locos due a run-round loop being blocked with wagons. Well recommended if you get a chance to do it.

I've done it a few times, last time I did it I managed to get a trip up front which was pretty cool - I believe they did back then which was a few years ago two types of tours one was the public tour using the railway coaches and the other was a private one using brake vans which was better as it meant with Tata's blessing being able to go EVERYWHERE :)

It was the same today. There was also a private tour with a shunter plus a few wagons and brake vans. It passed me whilst in car park after I finished work at lunch.

SO it hasn't changed, that's good :)

I wondered what it was at first when a heritage liveried shunter and some flats passed until I then saw the brake vans on the end.
