Hi everyone

Travelling from Edinburgh to York - our original seat was broken so upon moving discovered the same problem on the next seat

The reclining button / mechanism did not work, so the seat was reclined all the time :(

Is it worth complaining or not ?

Is there an online reporting system where you can flag these things up for repair ?

If the seats should work then that is what is expected or do we accept low standards ?

Are you sure it wasn't user error?

A button at the side - I may be green but not a cabbage !

Did you not say anything to the guard while you were travelling? He/she could have put it in the fault book for that particular train. Complaining after the event will make it much more difficult for maintenance staff to locate which coach and seat you were on.

I've had one of those permanently reclining seats reserved from Glasgow to Newcastle. I moved with the TM's approval, but some other poor sod had it reserved from Newcastle to Kings Cross when it was rather busier in 1st. I didn't report it as I assumed it was a known issue.

That is what I thought

Surely they have a qc department to identify problems ?

I do know your problem though - it can be rather annoying if your in a seat that has no 'brake' mechanism and moves whenever it wants too - one thing I found on the Night Riviera Sleeper a while go was a temperamental IC70 that didn't want to stay in one place, not helped when the ever problematic (it failed again this morning!) 57603 was leading and slipping / jerking several times as well!

If your still on the train, report to on train staff, if your not but know/remember the coach you were in you could email it in to East Coast.

They do, but I can tell you for a fact the issue would be sorted more quickly if the carriage and seat were flagged during the journey. It being in first class will make things easier, there are fewer first class coaches in the fleet and fewer seats in each first class coach but it really is worth mentioning things like that at the time if they are affecting the quality of your journey.

There is actually a code on a poster in EC carriages (Mk3 & Mk4) that you can text email problems to.

I know its in standard and presume that it is in first, however I have never ventured that far south down the train, perhaps they get their butlers to do it for them?

Of course it isn’t acceptable - but it is worth noting the seats are not sentient nor do they have the ability to talk and tell people they are broken. Without the assistance of their human friends the chairs will remain broken for ever.
