Thurnscoe to Denby Dale

Via which routes is a Thurnscoe to Denby Dale route 'any permitted' ticket valid?

In particular, is it valid via Wakefield Stations, Huddersfield and the Penistone Line?

The reason I ask is that there seems to be conflicting information on whether it is valid or not - according to the unofficial mileage calculator at http://www.bukitlawang.com/routes/routes.aspx, under the routeing guide's 3-mile rule it is not allowed by the National Rail Timetable, but it is allowed by the internal mileage data in RJIS. National Rail will also give an itinerary for a through ticket using that route.

That's very interesting - it certainly doesn't seem like it should be valid, but as with all things if NRE has given you an itinerary for the ticket then by all means follow that itinerary

Booking engines use RJIS data for mileage, and build in a bigger margin than 3 miles.

RJIS says this is within 3 miles of the shortest route, probably explaining why it is given as a permitted route.

I was incorrect initially - it is permitted under maps TP+SY. However it is rather underpriced!

At some point in the next couple of months, I'm going to start commuting daily from a Penistone line station in the South Yorkshire PTE area to Huddersfield and back. Considering that this ticket is valid via both Meadowhall and Huddersfield, I take it that a 7-day season from Thurnscoe to Denby Dale would cover my entire journey?
