23m stock, 444s and 159s. And bizarrely 456s for a while too, but I think this has been sorted?

Don't know nothing about this. Will check up tomorrow.

Thought it was 20mph.Is this anything to do with platform extensions?

I know 456's have many restrictions but im not trained on them yet.

444s and HSTs.
It might have changed since I last worked a train that way though, it was a number of years ago.

Hmmm worked 444's and 159's....Will check and already sent an email but no answer yet.Cheers.I know there are quite a few round the Windsor side for 158/159's and do no more than 20 through Staines.

I saw a 159 6 car at Reading platform 4 last year.Must say I was a bit stunned but chatted with the driver and he/she said they were on Route Learning for the MPV's.Had never seen one down there before.

The 159s are off to Reading this week too!

I have seen 450 8 cars at reading before.

There used to be a regular working a few years ago on the weekday afternoon, it started as a 4 coach 450 and then went to 8 coach 450, dont think its a 450 anymore though.
A few weeks ago I saw one on the 1635 Waterloo to "Reading via Richmond"

That would be about the right time, I only remember it because a few years ago it broke down at Longcross blocking the line for a couple of hours.
It was made up to 8 coaches just after that.

That particular service I saw it on does stop at Longcross as well!

It seems the stock for it works in as a service from Weymouth
1W62 1320 Weymouth to London Waterloo due 1620 P.12
2C91 1635 London Waterloo to Reading due 1758
2C60 1812 Reading to London Waterloo due 1934
Then working as the 1952 Weybridge, 2133 return into P.13 and 2P77 2315 London Waterloo to Portsmouth Harbour due 0054, after which it seems to sit in the platform until the morning (struggling to work out the morning portion of the diagram but that doesn't seem to be important :?)

I think, and obviously just for interest, it joins with the single 450 already in P4 (2T17 having arrived 0016 from Waterloo via Eastleigh) and then forms 2P90, the 12 car 0550 to Waterloo (on weekdays).

Yeah I think you're right, I was trying to work out what it did in the morning but it was too complicated :). I had found at Waterloo what looked like an ECS path for a 12 car being split and one unit going to Clapham Yard.

There do seem to be a lot of mixes at the moment, I saw a 450 stabled in one of the Epsom sidings a few mornings ago. Anyone got any idea why that was there?

If it is the morning then one weekday morning diagram has been a 450+450 since the timetable change. Gonna have to try and find it now, used to be advertised on the SWT Journeycheck page when several platforms couldn't fit 8 cars of 450 but the information got removed after extensions got completed.

Actually I don't know what it was doing there.

I know the following has been 450 since the May timetable change, although meant to use refurbished 456s once they become available:
08:36 Guildford to London Waterloo via Cobham
09:47 London Waterloo to Chessington South
10:39 Chessington South to London Waterloo
11:24 London Waterloo to Dorking
12:35 Dorking to London Waterloo

Meant to be 450+450 and has been the case for ages:
2H95 1813 London Waterloo to Shepperton via Richmond
2H62 1906 Shepperton to London Waterloo via Kingston

The following Hounslows have been 455+455 on weekdays for ages (possibly others too):
2S10 0633 Staines to London Waterloo
2V45 1607 London Waterloo to London Waterloo
2V49 1707 London Waterloo to London Waterloo

Apart from these any 450 substitutions elsewhere are down to luck. Last month one evening the Dorking/HamptonCt diagram starting with the 1824 Waterloo>Dorking was 450+450 rather than usual 455+455 (that one seems to be one of the last out of Wimbledon Park so often ends up short formed). Only last weekend there was a 450 on a Kingston circular & Shepperton diagram.

Not sure about the others but the 2S10 is diagrammed to be a 455 and always has been for as long as I can remember, the unit then runs empty to Twickernham and then forms a 'half' a Kingston rounder before doing a Hampton Court service.

I wasn't expecting it when getting that train from Hounslow once (0648 there), and was quite pleased to find a 455 as I sat in the motor coach and didn't fall asleep :D.
The 1607/1707 then do the 1743/1843 Shepperton via Richmond.

That working has been a pair of 450s since at least 2005, it comes off Strawberry Hill depot ecs to Waterloo and works the 2015 Haslemere afterwards.

The answer to the OP is obviously "not rare enough!". 450s seem to getting more common, as you would expect with the 458s being converted.

The Ascot-Guildford was a double 456 on monday (usually 458) and there's a 444 which works I think Alton-Waterloo stopper(ish) which I use on occasion.

When Royal Ascot is on during June, 455 trains are regular sightings on the Waterloo reading route from what I have seen, to fill in for the extra trains especially on the Saturday of Royal Ascot week.

I thought 458s had been completely taken off the weekday Ascot-Guildfords for a few months now, replaced by 456s?

Fair enough - just going on what I've seen passing through! Is the plan still to use 456s for strengthening 455 services to 10 car?

Yes, but not in any large numbers until firstly they are successfully modified to multiple with SWT's 455s, and secondly when there's somewhere to berth them at Waterloo. I can only assume this is why they are building a temporary bridge across the orchestra pit to allow P21/22 to come into use at the next timetable change. That way platform utilisation near the main suburban side (i.e. around P5/6/7 etc) can be altered.
