All the request stops on same line in one day

Hello,

Am currently reading an excellent book 'Tiny Stations' by Dixe Wills.

It got me thinking. Could I visit every request stop on my local line, the Kyle line?
There are six of them - Duirinish, Duncraig, Attadale, Achnashellach, Achanalt and Lochluichart

Was a little doubtful at first considering there are only eight trains per day, four each way.

Gladly though it can be done

What I would like some help with is this:

Do I have to buy a seperate ticket for each leg?
I'd be going no further then Lochluichart, so could I buy a return ticket from my starting point of Duirinish to Lochluichart?

Below is a plan of how it could be done

Duirnish - Dep 0626 - Lochluichart - arr 0744 - Advanced single £6.70

Lochluichart - dep 1001 - Attadale - arr 1051 - '' - £6.10

Attadale - arr 1238 - Achanalt - dep 1324 - '' £8.10

Achanalt - arr 1439 - Duncraig - dep 1543 - '' £6.70

Duncraig - dep 1728 - Achnashellach - arr 1803 - '' £5.40

Achnashellach - dep 1934 - Duirinish - arr 2016 - '' £6.30

= £39.30

Is Highland Railcard valid on advanced tickets?

If so fare would be £19.65

Thinking about it, buying a return ticket and then travelling up and down the line quite a few times might just be streching the term 'Return'

Still you never know?

My tip would have been walking between request stops and buying returns but I see what you're doing with your schedule so those tickets would be appropriate unless a rover ticket is cheaper but I doubt it would beat £19 with all your advances.

You may be able to talk to the guard and say I'm switching between all the request stops all day and see if he/she will look the other way and save you money but you would be forsaking buying advance tickets doing this.

PS: I remember driving to Duirinish through a field with a big bull in it and an old woman walking her dog with only a smattering of houses. I must have driven extremely close to you haha. Very envious of your location, especially with this weather!! :P

If you don't do any doubling-back, and providing you don't start using the return portion while you're still using the outward, a return would be valid.

You can break your journey multiple times in each direction, but once you start doubling-back, that's no longer a 'Return' and a return ticket wouldn't be valid.

As for the Highland Railcard, the National Rail website says:

...The card holder is entitled to 50% discount on the following fares:

• Anytime Single or Return
• Anytime Day Single or Return
• Off Peak Return
• Off Peak Day Return

Up to two children may travel with the Railcard holder for a flat fare of £2.00 return each.
