Can anybody confirm this is happening? The last e-mail I saw was that three of these units were going to be used. Assuming they must be starting this week.

Thanks for any information.

Starting this week I believe. Plan is two units, each with couple up to a 350/4 to make more 8 car trains.

Internally, are LM's 350/3s the same layout as TP's 350/4s (ie 2+2, seat back tables etc)?

Not identical layout but yes they're 2+2 throughout including First class. The 350/3 doesn't have bicycle bays or a catering bay in the TC car.

Well done TPx. Good to see & along with Scotrail enhancements, double Voyagers & 11-car Pendolinos, the railways are serving the City well for the games.

Wait until a 350 fails resulting in 400 people cramming on to a single 350 and start complaining about nothing being planned to cope with the extra demand.

Was able check out the new units 350373 /374 this afternoon, both in eight coach formation. Saw them both within ten minutes just north of Wigan .:D

Can anybody in the industry suggest whether they might swap these units over later in the week/end so that fresh units can build up some mileage.

Thanks for any information.

Additional support in the run up to and through the Commonwealth Games.

According to Tony Miles TPE have subleased 2 units for 6 weeks. I wonder if they plan to strengthen Edinburgh services after the games with the Edinburgh fringe festival being on in August.

Shame then this pairing was a late start ex MAN due to late off depot, resulting in them being 15 late at LOC en route to GLC and missing (yet again) the booked connection for EDB at Carstairs.

Tracking subsequent workings on Realtime Trains shows various late running for this pair through the day, and some unexplained delays along the way (see the LOC stops).

Will not be ideal but Virgin will accept their passengers & vice versa to keep things running smoothly for all exactly as all operators cooperated for the Olympics two years ago.

Not too well this afternoon - 60 minute delays at Central HL with signalling problems.

Never mind, these things happen.

Unless they change current practice that would only be if the Virgin service is booked to call at the stations those passengers require.

For instance, most Virgin trains don't call at Lockerbie, and many don't call at Penrith North Lakes.

In that instance I'm sure Special Stop Orders will be issued promptly as happens all over the network.

I am travelling from Bolton to Edinburgh via Wigan on Monday. Will it busy as far as Carlisle / Lockerbie?

Really? That doesn't happen now. If a FTPE northbound is cancelled I usually end up waiting an hour at Carlisle for the next one, or maybe if I am very, very lucky, get put on a coach. Virgin does not like SSO's for other companies delays.

Depends on time of day, and when the preceding EDB service was from either FTPE or Virgin - more info needed.

Doesn't appear to be always true. Last time i traveled with VT from Edinburgh, we made a extra stop at Lockerbie, due to a broken down 350 at Haymarket.

If going northbound, it depends badly. Only been on one service that stopped at Lockerbie going north.

There'll now be complaints that the new trains are going up north and the south is being deprived of them.

Am I right in thinking they hadn't actually turned a wheel in revenue earning service for LM before they went up to TPE?

Correct. I didn't think LM were planning to use them until at least September and maybe as late as the December timetable change.
