Surprised there hasnt been any discussion about this which has currently killed 175 people in a little more than a week.

A week.

Let that sink in for a minute as not one of them is an Israeli.

And then read this terrible story on how they are whooping and cheering on a hillside whilst watching their fellow man being slaughtered

HERE

An image that appears to show a group of Israelis on a hilltop cheering and applauding as they watch the deadly aerial bombardment of Gaza has caused international outrage after it was shared by thousands on Twitter.

Taken by the Middle East correspondent for a Danish newspaper, the picture shows rows of people sitting on plastic chairs looking out over the Gaza Strip as rockets and explosions light up the night sky.

Allan Sørensen, who posted the image, wrote that it showed a kind of “cinema” on the hilltop outside the Israeli town of Sderot, and a caption added: “Clapping when blasts are heard.”

Hamas have made a statement that they regard any attempt at a ceasefire, brokered by anyone let alone by Egypt, will be a matter that will have no meaning for Hamas and that their aim is nothing but the total acceptance of all the Hamas positions and "any short-term ceasefire" (Their own words) is meaningless. This statement was made minutes after Hamas broke the negotiated ceasefire by launching a series of rockets into Israel.

we are talking here about an organized and brutal army with the modern hi tech military equipment fighting some rebels with some AK47's and some old soviet era rockets .
There is no excuse for Israel killing innocent civilians in Gaza , if it was killing just the combatants of Hamas then their actions would be legitimate but their response is disproportionate .

Before anybody points it out to me I am quite aware that Hamas rebels regard suicide bombings as legitimate means of force and that is something I do not agree with . But to start with those have not played a feature in this conflict , and even if they had that does not give Israel the right to kill Palestinian civilians .

Even if Hamas Did kill innocents two wrongs dont make a right ,as I mentioned Hamas regards suicide bombings on innocents as legitimate which I dont agree with . But bombing a Palestinian school as a retaliation for a suicide bombing does not do anything to bring the conflict to a swift end which is actually part of the IDF Doctrine . Isreal is the recognized state with an organized military and so should be able to defeat the rebels reasonably effectively .

As far as I was aware Hamas and Fatah currently had an agreement and were negotiating .

How do you defeat terrorists when they use schools, hospitals, hotels and blocks of flats as weapons bases ?, that behaviour has been documented on countless occasions and does not allow Israel, or any other military you care to name, to operate as an effective armed force

One particular paragraph from the Hamas/Fatah report is worthy of note, June 2007 and especially the first paragraph, so Israel ignore the rights of civilian non combatants ?

put boots on the ground and go about deconstructing them . its higher risk but why is an IDF members life worth more than a palestinian citizens .

BTW I am only concerned in the current conflict , things that have happened in the past on both sides have been horrific I acknowledge that but looking forward at where this conflict is going is my interest not what has happened in the past .

Isreal is, yet again, out of control, acting totally inappropriately, and disproportionately.

They're oppressing the Palestinian people, some of whom are obviously going to fight back.

I mean, if someone had done to Great Britain what was done to Palestine, would we take it?! (rhetorical question!)

So it's alright for you to call the IDF "an organized and brutal army" while conveniently overlooking the atrocities carried out both in the past and currently by the Palestinians because you have no historical interest in the problem, no conflict has ever or will ever be solved by not taking the past into account, rightly or wrongly

Picture, if you will, the IDF putting boots on the ground, can you imagine the outcry ? it's not down to IDF casualties, it's down to common sense politics over an armed invasion, which is just how the anti-Israel cabal will see it

That's hardly inaccurate, is it?!

Oh the irony!

175 dead, and you ignore that, accuse people rightly outraged by the oppressive regime of "conveniently overlooking" and as for the history, do tell us what your version of it is, I doubt it's going to be very accurate though....

They are a small country who have been repeatedly attacked by combinations of their larger neighbours, who make no secret of their wish to wipe them off the face of the earth. How do you expect them behave, any sign of weakness would invite attack.

I was merely saying that my earlier comments are geared at the current fighting not the whole history of the conflict

Well the fact is that the IDF is the organized and recognized armed forces of Israel and is renowned for its disproportionate responses to small rocket attacks from a disorganized rebel army . Take the facts in the current fighting if you will . 192 Palestinian casualties vs how many Israeli casualties ?

We need to take the past into account but not get caught up in it otherwise you get what we have here where the civilian death toll on both sides escalates . If we took the whole history of the conflict into account I can see how both sides feel justified in what they are doing and that helps nobody

Currently the ferocity of attacks coming over the border from the gaza strip are low , reflected in the Isreali death toll . This surely should be a time when the rebels are at a low for isreal to strike with boots on the ground and remove their capabilities . Instead they are using massive missile strikes to just kill indiscriminately . Not right for anybody to do that in my view be they Palestinian or Israeli .

You seem to have a short memory , if you want to talk about history , Gaza was occupied by Israeli forces up until 2005

You seem to want to talk about Palestinian killing of innocents , which I have never once defended if you read my original post I state that their argument that suicide bombings are a legitimate tactic as being wrong . Palestinian killing of innocents which I have never denied does not legitimize Israels current tactics . Think what would have happened if the British government in Westminster had authorized the use of bombings on civilian targets during the height of the troubles in NI

That brutal, brutal Israeli D.F,

Dropping leaflets warning people to evacuate, sms messages, phone calls.
Not to mention the knocking on the roof procedure.

Hamas meanwhile forces people to ignore these warnings and remain in place has human shield. Watch them admit it here http://www.vodio.com/bHazM/israel-g...-proudly-admits-to-using-human-shields-in-nov

Israeli's in Sderot have 15 seconds to find shelter... Gazans have up to minutes or even hours(https://twitter.com/DannyNis/status/489289417375232001).

Oh and the Iron dome has a 86% success rate, over 231 interceptions which would of landed in cities full of civilians.

Only one side commits war crimes on a daily basis it's not Israel. It's Hamas who commit double warcrimes every time they fire a rocket, as the Palestinian envoy to the un explains here. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DjzS27ylCZ8)

GWRtom - Laughable claims there. With supporters like you, who conveniently ignore the shockingly disproportionate casualty rates on either side, no wonder Israel can get away with almost anything!

Neither side is 100% innocent.
Aye, there is no marked good or evil side in this. I just wish a way would be found to end the conflict for good, for everyone's sake.

Though I'm sure there's a greater chance of me sprouting wings and roosting in chimney pots than that happening...

What are Israel supposed to do when a neigbour is firing rockets over the border with the intent of killing Israelies? Just sit back and watch? Remember Israel respected the ceasefire and stopped any action. The Palestinians kept firing the rockets.

What what the UK do if France started doing the same?

"The same"? You mean if a huge immigration of French had caused them to take over British land, form a new state, then refusing to acknowledge our sovereignty, and oppressing us making sure we had a far, far lower standard of living than them, I doubt we'd just be accepting it, do you?

Yes it is inaccurate, the IDF is an organized and highly professional force which is charged with defending both it's country and population against people who are quite happy to fire rockets into civilian areas with no warning, as has been pointed out by another poster the IDF do not take action without giving prior warning, allowing innocent civilians to take the opportunity to make themselves safe, don't forget the FACT that Hamas, Fatah and their like deliberately use civilian buildings to fire rockets and mortars from and to store weapons

I don't need to tell you what the true version of the situation is, read about it for yourself from all the different political viewpoints that are available, you obviously wouldn't take any notice of me if I told you white was white so I don't intend to waste my time, you seem to think that I'm biased because I take a particular viewpoint whereas you are totally correct, honest and true because you take a different view, work that one out

Conveniently overlooking my point that the Palestinians broke the ceasefire. What are Israel supposed to do if the rockets keep coming?

Perhaps you'd like to tell us why they're laughable, you usually do very decent post breakdowns on ones you disagree with.

This is why I rarely wade into this debate, it seems to only correct answer is that Israel is working in partnership with Satan and are 100% undeniably to blame for the troubles over there.

I thought the correct term as used by Middle Eastern theocrats was "The Great Satan" in their reference to the United States of America.

I was making a sarcastic reference to them working with the 'real' Satan, not the USA, so apologies to anyone who reads it that way. Of course interpreting it as the USA would open up a huge can of worms ;)

For an avowed atheist, you have a very deep knowledge of matters appertaining to certain religious doctrines, such as the acceptance of Satan. I am indeed most impressed.

Both sides are to blame in this conflict . But when the press is showing the death toll as 192 Palestinians and 0 Israelis you have to question what is going on

Just because you think its shocking as I do that the Israelis are killing so many Palestinian citizens does not mean that I completely side with the Palestinians as they have done many wrongs in this ongoing historic battle . But if the IDF is so professional and strong it should be able to strip the Hamas rebels of their arms without any real difficulty engaging with them on the ground . What is currently happening is just slaughtering civilians because they would not vacate their homes , let me pose this question is it really reasonable that we should be expecting people to vacate their homes only to return to find them completely bombed out and unlivable .What do they have left then ?

Was the IRA's bombing campaign on mainland Britain justified because it always rang in a warning prior to the bomb going off ?

Not so much avowed but thanks :D It was entirely sarcastic just to demonstrate how Israel is nearly always perceived to be the evil side in this debacle. I was not making any inferences to any religion's relationship (or lack thereof) of the bloke.
