Hi is Salisbury to Woking any permitted valid via Southampton. I vaguely recall Salisbury - Waterloo being ok via Southampton and so expected NatRail to show via Southampton itineraries to Woking at same fare as direct via Andover but does not seem to. Could someone confirm. Many thanks

It would seem not. The National Rail Enquiries journey planner indicates that you need two tickets for Salisbury-Southampton-Woking (which means that it thinks that Salisbury-Southampton-Woking is not permitted on a Salisbury-Woking ticket), and the Routeing Guide indicates that the only permitted routes between Salisbury and Woking on a Salisbury-Woking ticket are those shown on map LE, which shows only the direct Salisbury-Andover-Basingstoke-Woking route.

It's about time someone went through the disputed route procedure and also asked Passenger Focus to do something about the huge number of reasonable routes that are no longer permitted.

If you'd like me to do any proof reading for any letters, let me know.

Didnt we have a thread about the removal of the 'via Southampton' bit on this ticket a couple of years ago?

Perhaps it was no longer considered reasonable, given the frequency and timings of trains on the direct route?

How is the disputed route procedure going?

Also, you can ask the DfT why they approved it? (They're subject to FOI, don't forget)

Also it may be worth asking Passenger Focus if they were consulted, and if so what did they say?
