Trip to Glasgow

I'm off to Glasgow in a few weeks time, was wondering if anybody knows of any other Day Rovers, I've managed to find a Roundabout Ticket, that takes in the subway and ScotRAIL to Motherwell, Paisley and Dumbarton. If anyone has any other information, it would be greatly received.

The Daytripper ticket gives you unlimited travel for one day by rail, Subway, most buses*, and some ferries in the Strathclyde region. Tickets are valid after 9.00am on Monday to Friday and all day at the weekends and on Glasgow public holidays.

Many many thanks, the SPT Daytripper looks cracking value and its certainly worth having a bit of a dash on it, however your certainly right regarding not getting that done in a day. I'll have about 9hrs to kill, so a bit whizzing round will certainly kill time.
I cant thank you all enough for the information.
Is there any station up there that gets freight through or am I deluding myself these days. I was maybe thinking Motherwell or trains that pass yards or depots to watch out for.
As you can probably tell its been a good while since I went up to Scotland looking at trains, in fact the 47/7's were nearly finished and 37's to the highlands still ran on my last proper Railway related visit into Scotland.other than that its been the odd quick look round at Waverley before taking the daughter up to Edinburgh Zoo, at Glasgow, I've usually only visited for Gigs at the Barrowlands or SEC.
Again, I doff my cap to you folk.

Cumbernauld to Motherwell services will take you past Mossend Yard Services towards Paiseley Gilmour Street will take you past Shields depot, just EMUs though. Same for Yoker depot.

No doubt others too, but not much uses the yards at Newton-on-Ayr anymore.

oh cheers for that techniquest, trust me i need an absolute boat load of Scottish EMU's, on buying the new NREA, I nearly passed out, I'm after 3 156's and a fair few 158's but the EMU's, there's a lot of wide open spaces.:roll::roll::roll::roll::roll:

If you are chasing EMUs then two -three hours at Glasgow Central high level will get you a good bag of 380s and 314s. There are also loads of 156s coming and going to help you on your way. You're better off standing on the higher numbered platforms - the ones that seem to be full of 380s.

Spend a similar amount of time at either Hyndland or Partick and you will amass a good haul of 318/320/334. Hyndland is the better location as its an island platform and in theory no chance of getting blocked (unless the signalman sends something up the loop line). Hyndland and Partick are easy to get to - any train from the low level platforms at either Queen Street or Central.

158s are a bit more tricky as they seem to go all over - I bagged an Inverness one in Central a few weeks back - but you might a handful in Central.

Much appreciated Keith, very helpful advice, I'd planned on a couple of hrs each on BOTH Central and Queen Street but i get itchy feet, hence the asking about a Rover, Hyndland, sounds a very good bet too. Some sound advice from everyone, which trust me will be taken on board. Many thanks to ALL for your help and any other advice, no matter how big or small will still be VERY much appreciated.If I miss anything, I suppose, I'll just have to go again, which would be such a crying shame.
Sorry last question, I could buy a daytripper ticket on line but won't have anyone to sign for it(due to work), can I buy the tickets at Central or Queen St or will I have to go to an SPT travel centre on the day. Sorry folks

I did Motherwell-Cumbernauld a couple of weeks back. Good views of Mossend/Coatbridge and it was pretty much an empty train [320317].

I have much love for the Strathclyde area, particularly the Aryshire area I find underrated. Also the services are fantastic. Just look at the Gourock / Ayr - Glasgow timetables, worked pretty much exclusively by brand new trains Somehwere the size of Kilwinning having 6tph to Glasgow!?

For freight, either Holytown or Coatbridge Central are probably the best stations to go to in the SPT area. Well, as my daughter would say, two more sleeps, till the Glasgow trip. I've taken on board the advice given and planned my moves accordingly, just hope all works out well. Out of Newcastle on the 06.20 to Edinburgh, anyone know if this booked a 91 or HST?, I'm summising it'll be a 91.
After that its 08.30 Edinburgh Waverley-Queen St arriving at 09.19, then the fun will begin, it's not about miles for me, it's scratching off as many Scottish units as humanly possible and seeing some freight loco's before the 19.30 Queen St-Waverley train arrives.

Looks like a decent enough plan there fair dos. I've no idea exactly what you'll get there in terms of EMUs, but Paisley Canal is apparently a mix of 314 and 380. I'll be surprised if you haven't been able to sample at least one of each of 314, 318, 320, 334 and 380 at some point!

I'd also expect a pair of 170/4s on the run to Queen Street, the return at 1930 I would imagine to be just a single 170 though.

Ah yes, the Roundabout. Fantastic value ticket that one, it was one of the many, many, many trips I was going to make this year way back when I started planning things in September 2013. Sadly I've not been even close to that far north yet this year. I don't know if it definitely still applies, but you used to have to get a separate pass for the SPT Subway (better known as the Clockwork Orange) and its barriers. Check when you get there as that was years ago when I did it last.

£35.05 is quite the bargain fair dos, especially compared to your mate's £36 for Newcastle to York! I have a hunch you'll love the trip, a completely different universe to Tyneside. Should you happen to come down to my neck of the woods, ie the Midlands, feel free to ask for advice again as I've got plenty to share!
