Wanting to get to Lincoln around 11am, leave after 5pm, preferably not tied to specific trains.
Anything better than a split at Sheffield for £21.40 total?

Thanks :)

Split at Lowdham, travelling via Nottingham for £21.00

A Chesterfield-Lowdham CDR for £13.10 and a Lowdham-Lincoln SDR for £7.90.

All Lincoln to Nottingham services call at Lowdham, so no problems there.

Not a big saving, but 40p cheaper :)

Thanks, I had to google where Lowdham was, I'd never heard of it.

I think for the sake of 40p I'll stick to Sheffield and get home 20 mins or so earlier. (Also I have a Stagecoach Megarider so could do the Chesterfield to Sheffield bit on the X17 bus for 'free'.)

If you're going to do the bus to Sheffield, make sure you get a 'Via Retford' ticket from Sheffield, it's £16.40 vs £19.80 for the 'Any Permitted'. All the direct Sheffield to Lincoln services pass through Retford - but quite a few people seem to end up with the more expensive ticket when purchasing from machines!

Leicester - Lincoln is no longer permitted via Sheffield. It was withdrawn a couple of weeks ago.

Ah right, didn't know. Do they actually publish a withdrawal notice or does the fare/route combination simply disappear from online journey planners?
