Seems that QTS got the job to cut her up and made a video all about it:)
I bet it cost a fair bit but leaving it to decay naturally was obviously a no no in this day so hats off for achieving it in 70 days and 85 % parts reused

Reminded me irresistibly of little yellow scavengers devouring the carcass of a large defunct animal.

Fascinating video, I do love the fact that the locomotive was listed as being based at Tulloch (S)

So... what music is best for watching this. I suggest a little up-tempo sonic wallpaper c/o Paul Oakenfold.

Yes sort of thing you expect in a rainforest!! Love the landscaping at the end

Must have been an enjoyable work location for the duration wonder if they lived up there or commuted from Fort William or Tyndrum I did see a number of road rail vehicles I the shots

I guess we have an old thread in which members have pontificated various suggestions for removing it intact? A link to that thread please?

I wonder if it's a case of the loco being worth more in parts than as a whole - it's not uncommon for relatively new aircraft to be parted out even if they haven't been involved in an incident. For example, there are very few A318's in service in this era of $100/bbl oil, the airlines pretty quickly realised they would make more selling them as parts than operating them. It would be interesting to know how much of a loss/surplus was made between the cost of recovery and parts value.

I am guessing the EA forced NWR hand in this and insisted the loco was removed I can't see it being a commercial decision Also be interesting who pays seeing as it wasn't GBRFs insurance fault

Is this the second 66 to be cut up after 66521 (Heck accident)?

I believe so. Though the EWS/DB Schenker one involved in the derailment on the Highland Main Line a couple of years back is unlikely to turn a wheel in anger again, and is currently out of use at Toton yard I think.

My guess would be that bill (if the value of the parts is less than the cost of recovery) eventually ends back with Network Rail.

I bet GBRF and EWS wish they had returned those two 66s to service now, thanks to the EU.

I can't see the video embed for some reason. What's the link to it?
